My mom and I would walk down to 7 mile rd. and take the bus to Woodward. She’d shop in Hudson’s basement for bargains. Winkleman’s, and Albert’s were her other shopping spots. My treat would be at Sanders soda jerk bar. On Halloween the area I covered was Outer Drive to 7 mile rd., Ryan rd. to Conant. My summer swimming coach at Pershing H.S. (summer kids program) was Will Robinson. Do wrong with him and he wet the leather strap in the pool, you’d have to lower your trunks, and he smack you with the strap on your ass. Black, white, red, or green made no difference to him - great guy. Last I heard he was equipment coach for the Pistons. Yep, It was a great city. Many years ago.

I live near Balwmer, and my dad’s family still resides there in the south neighborhood of Federal Hill(newly redistricted). A great majority of the crime is related to drugs, in one way or another. Therefore the homicide clearance rate is never over 50%, especially when the inner city population are not cooperating with law enforcement. Thats understandable when the ones that do cooperate either end up dead or have their loved ones hurt or intimidated with violence. Last main reason that the murders are so frequent is due to ineffective tactics used by Baltimore police. When you go through 5 commissioners in, what the last three years or so, its easy to see why the crime continues.

We are the “City that bleeds”

With the youth growing up in families with little to no stability and only one parent present, supervision of the kids is nonexistent allowing the street to be the major influence on the impressionable youth of Baltimore. They learn the rules of “the game” from the ones that play it. The view that is presented is biased, romanticizing it and leaving out all the negatives. They pray on these impressionable youth that are susceptible due to lack of strong adult influence by saying that there is no other choice for them. Despair rules while hope dies each day more and more. Someone HELP?

Baltimore is doomed to repeat the violence year after year. The federal agencies are so intently focused on counter terrorism that unless its political corruption or organized crime that is occurring they offer no help to state and city law enforcement. There was a time when the U.S. government utilized the power of the mafia to their advantage. They knew that as long as their was money to be made that the mafia would always exist. The mafia provided connections and intelligence that was previously unattainable to any gov. agency. These members of Cosa Nostra were dedicated and loyal to their country and quickly jumped at the chance to provide the gov. with access to power and influence they hold. Since the late 80’s when the FBI severely crippled the stranglehold the American mafia had on the U.S., they have opened the door for ethnic gangs to rise in power. These gangs care nothing for U.S. patriotism and follow no code or rules to their criminal activities. This means more violence, especially on innocent citizens and no longterm leadership due to constant aspirations of underlings and their use of violence to attain the seat of leader. The intimidation of the community is serious because unlike the mafia that preferred secrecy and the thought that they don’t exist, these ethnic gangs enjoy the spotlight their crimes give them. There ruthlessness knows no bounds, having no thought of ordering the murder of police or public servant to protect their enterprise. In contrast the mafia had a rule that no public servant of any type is to be the target of violence, to mainly keep heat of their business and because they know that the police are doing what they do. The FBI made it a priority to bring down the mob to maintain its dominance of power. The Mafia became to powerful with influence in all aspects of U.S. society, so they had to go. Baltimore is run by local drug lords, some being organized that is comparable to Cosa Nostra(American Mafia), controlling the traffic of narcotics from wholesale to street distribution. Because they are not considered what the FBI considers OC targets like the Italians or Russians, they operate relatively uninterrupted

All of Camden’s murders were apparently done across the river in Philadelphia this past year.

“I would bet (I am a betting man as it were) that most of the murders in these large cities are most generally confined to a specific area of each city...”

C’mon, c’mon. Just say it. It’s them Thunderbird folks.
