...Of course, television doesn't always tell the whole story. The average American is 36 times more likely to die from heart disease than be murdered, six times more likely to die in an accident and four times more likely to die from Alzheimer's disease, according to data compiled by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics.
But homicide does result in many thousands of deaths every year. And a comparison of the 72 American cities with a population over 250,000, using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting Program, reveals that some places are definitely more murderous...
The ten most murderous cities are discussed in detail but for the record they are:
Surprisingly, the country's biggest cities aren't usually the most dangerous. Out of the 10 most murderous cities in America, only one, Philadelphia, has a population over 1 million. And America's biggest metro, New York City, is also one of its safest; with a murder rate of 7.3 per 100,000 people, it comes in at No. 50 on a list of the 72 American cities with a population over 250,000

man. nyc has some catching up to do.
How many of these cities are run by the rats??
These 10 are democrat enclaves. I’d bet they also have other major social negatives also......... education, welfare, etc.
All of them.
I see Gun Control D.C. is still doing very well.
Gee , wonder what the commonality is..
Could it be 40 yrs of liberal government and turning a blind eye to gangs...
No way Chicago is not on this list...Or LA???...come on. This does not pass the smell test.
We are #1
DC is only #7? Could have fooled me.
Wow at 5.7% that is over 170,000 deaths in 2006. I wonder how that measures up with the total number of Iraqis and US military killed combined since 2003 to now?
The only two surprises to me are St. Louis - I thought the mid-west was more peaceful. And Buffalo...where it is so darn cold, and covered with snow and ice most of the time (that's why I left the north anyway) that I would think most people would be too busy keeping warm and staying inside! Maybe they get "cabin fever?" LOL
We're number 1! We're number 1! We're number 1...............Should have been last year too but I don't think they count the numbers that didn't die immediately..........
Heck, we're even logging multiples on weekends so eat that L.A. and Washington DC.....
And what do they all have in common ? Aside from Cincinnati, not a one has had a Republican Mayor in 35-50 years or longer. In New Orleans’ case, not in about 130+ years.
Cut that population requirement back, and Desert Hot Springs (meth lab capital of southern California) would be way up there....
I think St. Louis’ boundaries are actually fixed by the Missouri constitution. So the low-crime suburbs many big cities have on their outskirts are more absent in St. Louis - they’re part of other cities. That probably contributes to a higher per-capita crime rate.
