In last month's column "Academic Cesspools," I wrote about "Indoctrinate U," a recently released documentary exposing egregious university indoctrination of young people at prestigious and not-so-prestigious universities (www.onthefencefilms.com/movies.html). I said the documentary only captured the tip of a disgusting iceberg.
The Philadelphia-based Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), a frontline organization in the battle against academic suppression of free speech and thought, released information about what's going on at the University of Delaware, and probably at other universities as well, that should send chills up the spines of parents of college-age students. The following excerpts are taken from the University of Delaware's Office of Residence Life Diversity Facilitation Training document. The full document is available at www.thefire.org.
Students living in the University's housing, roughly 7,000, are taught: "A racist: A racist is one who is both privileged and socialized on the basis of race by a white supremacist (racist) system. The term applies to all white people (i.e., people of European descent) living in the United States, regardless of class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality. By this definition, people of color cannot be racists, because as peoples within the U.S. system, they do not have the power to back up their prejudices, hostilities or acts of discrimination. (This does not deny the existence of such prejudices, hostilities, acts of rage or discrimination.)" This gem of wisdom suggests that by virtue of birth alone, not conduct, if you're white, you're a racist.

WTF?
“This gem of wisdom suggests that by virtue of birth alone, not conduct, if you’re white, you’re a racist.”
What madness..I’m a born again (white male) Christian who is raising 2 children (with a great wife)..We have taught our children that we don’t look at a persons color, we look at their heart/actions..these “Progressives” just don’t get it..they are the true racists, IMHO
Oh, that tired old rot. The Humpty-Dumpty definition of racism has been around at least since U. Delaware President Harker and I were both grad students at Penn. (I’ve never met him—he was Wharton, I was GSAS Mathematics, but we overlapped by three or four year.)
Of course the left wants to declare homosexual attraction is an involuntary inborn state on the theory that that would render it morally contentless and sheild it from criticism. Declaring racism to be an involuntary inborn state, somehow is supposed to have the opposite effect: making all white people morally condemnable. Hence, my reference to Lewis Carroll’s Humpty-Dumpty, who used words to mean exactly what he chose them to mean, neither more nor less.
Well, gee, if I am automatically a racist, then I should be able to say and do anything racist I want and I can just say I was born that way. I become privileged do to this accident of my birth and they can’t do anything about it. So scroom!
Your logic is compelling..They just don’t get it!!

Not to burst *their* bubble (you already know better), but it wouldn't shield it from criticism.
Christianity forbids extramarital sex even between consenting *heterosexuals* -- and there was never any doubt that *that* tendency was inborn.
And, for that matter, gluttony. And eating is as natural as it gets.
Cheers!
Humpty couldn’t be put back together again and words are just as elusive and ineffective... meaning is somehow not just a condition or product of words, words give rise to interpretation so that meaning, in part, resides elsewhere, outside of words and language.
