Duncan Hunter Buzz, A Plan to Support the Man
My own thoughts... | 11/07/2007 | DoughtyOne

Posted on 11/07/2007 3:15:35 AM PST by DoughtyOne

During this Presidential pre-Primary and Caucus season, we are evaluating who the best Conservative man for the job is.  Many of us have expressed support for Fred Thompson as the most viable Conservative candidate.  And of those of us who have, I have seen many express a noticable preference for Duncan Hunter, who in fairness we have deemed not be looking viable at this time.

While there is still time, I would like to suggest a reasoned strategy to help create buzz for the best candidate out there.  What I have in mind would continue until the mid to last part of December.  Then at that time we could re-evaluate what the status is, and continue our effort or move our support to the more viable candidate.

I do not want to drag down a good man.  I don't want to continue to support a lost cause.  I don't want to split the Conservative vote at Primaries and Caucuses.  So this does need to be handled in a timely planned manner.

At this point in time it seems to me the two most important questions should be, in our heart of hearts who is the best Conservative candidate with the most consistant record over the last few decades, and how best can we help that candidate achieve more visibility and there-by traction?

From my observation, Congressman Duncan Hunter is the most tested long term Conservative candidate on the radar.  As mentioned earlier, Hunter is barely on that radar, but he is there.  And acknowledging his presence and credentials, it seems a must for me to mention that we have the ability to help the man.  And that being the case, I think we should.

It is important to Conservatism's principles that we create the maximum buzz for Hunter that we can.  We should talk him up whenever possible.  We should provide a link to his site whenever possible.  And we should be ready to explain our own persoal top five reasons we support him, on a moments notice.  We should do it on this forum.  We should do it on other conservative sites.  Whenever there is a poll, I want to urge folks to vote for Hunter.  I still believe that he can catch on if our members will spread the good word far and wide.  And Hunter is the good word this pre-election season.

I do want to acknowledge an important issue before I end these comments.  Fred Thompson is an important viable and supportable fall back position to Duncan Hunter.  It is important that when we get the word out about Hunter, that we make sure to mention that Fred Thompson is also a good man, a man we will gladly vote for if we need to.

Ideally, I would love to see a Hunter/Thompson ticket.  Being realistic, we may have to settle for a Thompson/Hunter ticket.  Well, that's a ticket every Conservative should be able to support in good concience.  And the best way to get that ticket, is to spend some time talking Hunter's numbers up.

Don't settle for my five good reasons to support Hunter.  Go to his site and determine your own best five reasons, the ones most important to you.

Then go out there and talk him up and keep Fred front and center too.  These are good men folks.  As Freepers we should be proud to support either one.  I still think Hunter is the solid choice, if Conservatism is the guidepost.

Those of you who do not support Hunter or Thompson, I'm not here to convert you.  If you can't see the value in these men, I understand.  I would ask that you develop your own thread to talk up you candidate, and not spend time here talking down ours.  No offense intended.
Take care.

Thanks folks.

Anyone who wants to have tax dollars pay for abortions is no fiscal conservative.

Rudy is not a conservative in any manner.

The scarier part, Clara, is that we probably agree on a whole lot. Just not on the guy who should be nominated this time round.

I’m not even sure they changed the title. It was a hit piece and it wouldn’t surprise me if they posted it as found.

How many Democrats in the Senate and Congress do you think are patriots? 50?;5?; none? I can’t think of any, myself, but there should be a few. I would say that Joe Lieberman is a patriot, but he was read out of the Democrat Party. I used to think, that Al Gore, was a patriot, but that was before 1992.

I am sure that there are quite a few politic ans at the state and local level in red states who are patriots, but they don’t count in my mind.

I agree. We need a concerted effort to support the man. I would like to propose a fund set up through Free Republic just for supporting an ad for Duncan Hunter (paid for by Free Republic members). I would contribute in a flash. If Jim isn’t interested, maybe someone could get Duncan’s campaign to listen and we could discuss what we want to say in the ad on this thread.

I haven’t seen one ad for Duncan Hunter.

Was the information posted incorrect or a lie? Personal opinions about looks, wives, etc are just silly and childish if that's what you're talking about. If it was about a drug dealing 'friend' who got off without a day of jail time, I think that's another thing. We are known by our 'friends'. That's what everyone said about the Clintons.

I’d like to see something along those lines too. Perhaps we should contact the campaign and coordinate with them.

My Congressman, Norm Dicks is one. I always thought John Breuax was one. Usually the red state democrats as opposed to the blue staters.

Well AuntB, I do think you realize the difference between befriending someone ten years after the fact, and snorting with them while a governor prior to them being busted, and then pardoning them later on.

The same media that had nothing to say about Clinton/Lasiter and what they did together, had plenty to say about Thompson and his friend twenty four years after the fact.

I see this tactic used against Fred as a very transparent attempt to take him down.

Where were the bonified go for the throat investigation of Clinton’s past or even current shortcomings?

For instance, how did Jennifer Flowers fly under the radar? If she hadn’t come forward, we’d have never known.

What about the women Clinton physically abused?

I could go on for hours. The point is, I don’t fault Fred for having this person working for him. The libs talk a great line about forgiveness and second chances, then attack somone who had rehabilitated himself decades ago, a full twenty-four years later.

Problem is this is all cookbook stuff. There is no secret to getting notice for your candidate. You make the commercials, buy the time and go. The more noise you make, the more people notice, the more donations.

Then the media WANTS to hear what you have to say, because your people calling the station about schedule and appearances Get the media motivated.

Like I said, some PRIME opportunities for Duncan have been missed, basic stuff. The fires in San Diego should have been a gold mine of exposure, but his campaign people dropped that ball, again.

I will be participating in a VERY contentious Senate and House campaign here, both for the primary and the general. On top of that help with the Thompson campaign when that gets rolling.

It is one of the best campaign seasons yet.

I’m behind Duncan Hunter 100%! I am running a blog, which I have so far been able to keep up daily, for Ohio.

http://ohioforduncanhunter2008.blogspot.com/

I would like Thompson or Tancredo for VP. That would be a dream ticket.

You know, there was a time when Duncan Hunter was polling .01%. Now Duncan Hunter has moved to 4% in the CNN poll. Word is getting out. We have to keep plugging away.

"Like I said, some PRIME opportunities for Duncan have been missed, basic stuff. The fires in San Diego should have been a gold mine of exposure, but his campaign people dropped that ball, again." I respectfully disagree. If anything, it shows that Duncan Hunter has a great deal of class not capitalizing on a tragedy such proportions for personal political gains. While some other politicians would jump at the opportunity to shove their face into a camera and microphone to further their political agenda, Duncan Hunter took the moral high road and did not exploit the lost and suffering of his fellow San Diegans. No, Hunter just worked hard to mobilize help from the federal levels. Now that's presidential stuff!

Not necessarily in order - these are ALL important, in different ways.

1. National Security
2. Border Security
3. Mirror-image trade policy
4. Second Amendment
5. Family/life
