:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
U.S. to Offer Turkey Help on PKK

The U.S. is to offer Turkey a package of measures to dissuade Ankara from mounting a large-scale military incursion into Iraq to attack PKK Kurdish guerrillas, who have killed scores of Turkish soldiers in recent weeks.

Ahead of a meeting in Washington on Monday between President George W. Bush and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey’s prime minister, U.S. officials said Ankara would have to get concrete American help to combat the PKK, which has bases in northern Iraq from where it frequently launches attacks into Turkey.

“Erdogan has to go back with the belief that for whatever reason, the U.S. is serious” about tackling Turkey’s concerns regarding the PKK, said Matthew Bryza, deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. state department responsible for Turkey policy. Full story...

What Russia's top general is calling the US

Russia's top military commander says his country has no obligation to defend other countries against what he calls "evil Americans."

Russia's state news agency says General Yury Baluyevsky was responding to a reporter's question about whether the world could depend on Russia to defend it from what the interviewer called "insidious American plans." The general said no — but he did say U.S. plans to build a missile defense system in Eastern Europe are directed against and aimed at Russia — not Iran.

Quantas staff booed while trying to revive dying passenger

In a report by the Courier Mail, Qantas staff were booed by angry passengers when they closed their check-in counters to help a dying woman at Brisbane Airport on Monday morning.

The 80-year-old woman had suffered a heart attack and collapsed shortly after joining Qantas Club check-in queue. She was tended to by two doctors but paramedics could not revive her.

"There were only half the number of check-in points operating that morning because six staff had called in sick. The terminal was packed with about 1000 people and no one could move. The public didn't know what was going on," Julie Bignell, from the Australian Services Union told Brisbane’s Courier Mail.

“Israeli Lawmakers Make It Tougher to Divide Jerusalem”
By Julie Stahl
CNSNews.com Jerusalem Bureau Chief
November 14, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Jerusalem (CNSNews.com) - A law that will make it more difficult for the Israeli government to divide the city of Jerusalem passed a preliminary reading by a large majority in the Israeli Knesset on Wednesday.

The vote comes ahead of the U.S.-sponsored Israeli-Palestinian summit, where the issue of dividing Jerusalem may come up.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has indicated that he would be willing to divide Jerusalem between Jewish and Arab neighborhoods - a plan first put forward by then-President Bill Clinton in 2000. (See related story)

A close confidant of Olmert’s, Vice Prime Minister Haim Ramon, went a step further, suggesting that the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Jerusalem, be turned over to the Palestinian Authority. (Several important Islamic shrines are now built on the Temple Mount, atop the ruins of ancient Jewish temples.)

Opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu recently warned that dividing Jerusalem would be tantamount to turning the city over to Hamas as Islamic radicals moved onto the doorstep of the city’s Jewish neighborhoods.”

“Al-Qaida Finds Another Home In Gaza”

November 11, 2007
“Target: Israel”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In Gaza, there is a terror group that embraces the name, Al-Qaida of Palestine. The video produced by the group, which CBN News obtained, uses as a recruiting device for the youths in Gaza.

Members can be seen chanting, conducting martial arts demonstrations, engaging in tests of agility, and singing an Islamic song declaring their journey of jihad.

“We are on the way to the target!” one member shouted. And just what would the group’s primary target be? Israel.

The video comes from Beit Hanoun, a city on the northeastern edge of the Gaza Strip. The region is a breeding ground for terrorists, including Al-Qaeda of Palestine.

The group’s theology comes from Saudi Arabia. Its stated goal is to kill Jews and Christians.”

“A Grim Milestone Ignored”
By Patrick Poole
FrontPageMagazine.com | Thursday, November 15, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The establishment media is seemingly obsessed with “grim milestones” in the War on Terror, as the Associated Press reminds us this past weekend. But in the next week those same establishment media outlets will probably stand mute when yet another “grim milestone” is reached – the10,000th attack by Islamic terrorists and militants since 9/11, which is responsible for approximately 60,000 dead and 90,000 injured.

The chronicler of this bloody tally is Glen Reinsford, editor of TheReligionofPeace.com, who began compiling and updating daily a detailed list of reported incidents of violence and terrorism around the world targeting non-Muslims and Muslims alike. Because of space limitations he only posts the past two months worth of attacks on his websites main page, though he has archived all of the incidents from past years (2001-2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007). He also maintains a banner graphic with the updated number of attacks, which people can post on their own websites.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In his explanation of his methodology, he notes that he doesn’t include combat-related statistics, and acknowledges that the death toll may increase in the days and months following the attack as victims die from their injuries, which almost never get reported. The list also doesn’t account for the genocide in Darfur committed by the Islamist government in Sudan and their Janjaweed marauding militias, which the UN estimated last year had resulted in 400,000 dead and 2 million displaced.”

“Lawmen under siege along Mexico border”
By Jerry Seper
November 15, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “”They’ve got weapons, high-tech radios, computers, cell phones, Global Positioning Systems, spotters and can react faster than we are able to,” said Shawn P. Moran, a 10-year U.S. Border Patrol veteran who serves as vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 1613 in San Diego.

“And they have no hesitancy to attack the agents on the line, with anything from assault rifles and improvised Molotov cocktails to rocks, concrete slabs and bottles,” he said. “There are so many agent ‘rockings’ that few are even reported anymore. If we wrote them all up, that’s all we would be doing.”

Assaults against Border Patrol agents have more than doubled over the past two years, many by Mexico-based alien and drug gangs more inclined than ever to use violence as a means of ensuring success in the smuggling of people and contraband.”

“Palestinian Pastor Vows to Continue, Despite Ongoing Threats”

By Mark Ellis
Senior Correspondent, ASSIST News Service

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “RAMALLAH, WEST BANK (ANS) — His efforts to help his people have led to numerous death threats. Because another Palestinian pastor was recently murdered, he takes the threats seriously.

“I have to take the threats seriously,” says Pastor Isa Bajalia, an American-born Palestinian who founded a ministry in Ramallah known as Middle East Missions. “Rami Ayyad once sat in my place and thought they probably won’t do anything,” he notes.

Rami Ayyad, the manager of Gaza City’s only Christian bookstore, was abducted and killed in early October. The attack came six months after his Palestinian Bible Society bookshop was bombed, and nearly daily threats of violence. No arrests have been made in his killing.

Threats against Pastor Isa began in May...”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RELEASE No. 20071114-09
November 14, 2007

Tip leads to large explosive cache (Baghdad)

2nd BCT, 82nd Airborne Division PAO
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD – Acting on a tip, elements of the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, 11th Iraqi Army Division and 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment conducted a cordon and search of a house containing several hundred pounds of components capable of making homemade explosives in the Adhamiyah neighborhood Nov. 12.

The chemicals were found in bags behind a false wall inside the home.

The components uncovered included nine bags labeled potassium nitrate, two bags of an orange powder, possibly urea nitrate, and one 50-kilogram bag of aluminum powder.

These chemicals, when mixed together properly, can form a deadly explosive.

After consulting the Iraqi Army officials, an explosive ordnance disposal team was called to conduct a controlled detonation inside the house, due to the instability of the explosives.

EOD was able to minimize the blast so that it did not destroy the house or neighboring homes. However, the potassium nitrate caught fire and damaged the interior of the house.

The local fire department was on scene during this event and was able to isolate the flames and prevent them from spreading to other homes.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Office of the Spokesman
This information is current as of today, Thu Nov 15 2007 04:25:41 GMT-0800 (PST).

Worldwide Caution

October 09, 2007

This Public Announcement updates information on the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against Americans and interests overseas. This supersedes the Worldwide Caution dated April 10, 2007.

The Department of State remains concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations and other violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests overseas. Current information suggests that al-Qaida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in multiple regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. These attacks may employ a wide variety of tactics including assassinations, kidnappings, hijackings and bombings.

Ongoing events in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East have resulted in demonstrations and associated violence in several countries. Americans are reminded that demonstrations and rioting can occur with little or no warning.

In August 2006, British authorities arrested a significant number of extremists engaged in a plot to destroy multiple passenger aircraft flying from the United Kingdom to the United States. The September 2006 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Syria and the March 2006 bombing near the U.S. Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan illustrate the continuing desire of extremists to strike American targets.

Extremists may elect to use conventional or non-conventional weapons, and target both official and private interests. Examples of such targets include high-profile sporting events, residential areas, business offices, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, schools, public areas and locales where Americans gather in large numbers, including during holidays. In August 2007, two bombs exploded almost simultaneously at an amusement park and a restaurant in India, killing at least 42 people. In June 2007, two unexploded car bombs were discovered in London. Financial or economic targets of value may also be considered as possible venues; the vehicle-based suicide attack on an oil facility near Mukalla and Marib in Yemen in September 2006 and the failed attack on the Abqaiq oil processing facility in Saudi Arabia in late February 2006 are such examples.

In the wake of the August 2006 plot against aircraft in London, numerous terrorist attacks on trains in India in 2006, the July 2005 London Underground bombings, and the March 2004 train attacks in Madrid, Americans are reminded of the potential for terrorists to attack public transportation systems. In addition, extremists may also select aviation and maritime services as possible targets. In June 2007, a car was driven into the main terminal at Glasgow International Airport and burst into flames. The car bomb failed to detonate.

U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster their personal security. For additional information, please refer to “A Safe Trip Abroad” found at http://travel.state.gov .

U.S. Government facilities worldwide remain at a heightened state of alert. These facilities may temporarily close or periodically suspend public services to assess their security posture. In those instances, U.S. embassies and consulates will make every effort to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens. Americans abroad are urged to monitor the local news and maintain contact with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

As the Department continues to develop information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens overseas, it shares credible threat information through its Consular Information Program documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov . In addition to information on the Internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. and Canada or, outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444.

Re Ping to #732........

After I get done with the ROFLMAO, I gotta ask why anyone’s worried.

I’m sure that there were a whole series of memos and meetings about security before the policy that caused this cluster**** was put into effect.

.......don’t mind the sarcasm, I love it when the bureaucrats get things like this stuck up their noses.

RE #718 deliberate hole drilled into nuke cooling pipe.

Didn’t this happen up in Michian as well? Seems I’ve heard 2 separate reports of this type of activity. Also, remember the pipe bomb in the pick up truck - that would make 3 nuke plants w/ unusual/suspicious activity.

Me thinks nuke power plants are being targeted at this time.

Thanks for the info O!
