Musician gets 15 years for backing al Qaeda
Losing his chops. From Reuters (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New York jazz musician and martial arts instructor was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday for agreeing to help train al Qaeda fighters in hand-to-hand combat.
Tarik Shah, 44, a Muslim born and raised in New York, received the maximum sentence in Manhattan federal court under a plea agreement with U.S. prosecutors in which they dropped one of the terrorism charges against him.
He pleaded guilty in April to one count of conspiring to support al Qaeda.

“Ship crashes into Bay Bridge tower, spills fuel oil”
Carl Nolte,Michael Taylor, Chronicle Staff Writers
Thursday, November 8, 2007
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “An 810-foot-long container ship crashed into the base of a tower of the Bay Bridge’s western span in heavy fog Wednesday, spilling 58,000 gallons of fuel into San Francisco Bay.
It was the first time in memory that an oceangoing ship had run into the bridge. There was no apparent major damage to the span, but the hull of Hanjin Shipping’s 65,131-ton Cosco Busan was ripped.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Coast Guard investigators were looking into how the ship, under the control of one of the bay’s most experienced pilots and equipped with radar, crashed.”

Tancredo: Scrap 9/11 Islamic crescent
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | November 8, 2007
Posted on 11/08/2007 3:44:15 AM PST by Man50D
Two years ago U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo asked the Park Service to revamp a proposed memorial to the heroics of Flight 93 passengers and crew, who died trying to retake their airliner from terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001, because of its use of a crescent, an Islamic symbol.
But the crescent remains, and now he’s telling officials to scrap the plan and start all over.
“I sincerely hope that you will direct the committee to scrap the crescent design entirely in favor of a new design that will not make the memorial a flashpoint for this kind of controversy and criticism,” the Colorado Republican told Mary Bomar, the director of the National Park Service, in a letter this week.
As WND reported earlier, the father of one of those heroes, Tom Burnett, who led other passengers in an effort to overcome the Flight 93 terrorists, is banning the use of his son’s name at the memorial because of its Islamic symbolism.
Tom Burnett Sr. told a blogger who also has been campaigning against the “Crescent of Embrace” design for the memorial that he won’t allow his son’s name to be used on any memorial with Islamic components.
“With the crescent design still going forward, he has decided that it is necessary to up the ante, and has authorized me to publicize his decision to protest the crescent design by insisting that Tom Jr.’s name not be inscribed on one of the 44 glass blocks emplaced along the flight path, or used anywhere else in the memorial,” Alec Rawls wrote earlier.

President Extends Condolences and Condemns Terrorist Attack in Afghanistan
The terrorist attack today in Afghanistan is a despicable act of cowardice and it reminds us who the enemy is - extremists with evil in their hearts who target innocent Muslim men, women and children. The President expresses his sorrow for the grieving families of the victims, and he is committed to working with the Government of Afghanistan and our NATO allies to fight the terrorists who use murder to advance their hateful ideology.

Just on the news here a 20 month old in NJ is in a coma from swallowing beads from a toy called “Aqua Dots” sprayed with some kinda toxic chemical that gives the same results as if swallowing a date rape drug.
China, IMO is trying to slowy kill us all starting with children. At least that we know of, I wonder what else they are lacing with poisonous substances that we eat, wear and use every day because nothing is made here anymore. My neighbor searched for two months to find my dog a toy for Christmas because she knows I don’t allow chinese made products for him.
If I had small children I would ask the same for them.
I looking for an update. This morning on Fox they said that
it was determined that it isn’t lead or carbon monoxide.
They are still trying to find the cause.
This is very alarming.
This is getting too much. I don’t think we should be getting
anything from China until alot is changed.

School calls in medical expert
An investigator with the CDC will help look into symptoms at William Byrd High School.
By David Harrison
Roanoke County authorities have turned to an outside expert to help investigate strange twitching symptoms in some people at William Byrd High School that were made public six days ago.
A Richmond-based medical investigator from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention arrived in Roanoke County on Wednesday and will join a team trying to track down the cause of the mysterious symptoms, said Robert Parker, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Health.
Bringing in an outside expert could be a sign that an investigation has gone beyond the scope of local authorities, said Viktor Bovbjerg, an associate professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
“This is a typical thing to do if you’re either stumped or you have an idea and you need an outsider to come in,” he said. “If you bring in higher levels or an outside laboratory typically it means you’re looking for something specific that you can’t test at the local level.”
Parker said the CDC official represents “an additional level of support for that type of investigation.”
The symptoms, described as twitching, tremors, dizziness and headaches, have stymied health officials and sparked a whirlwind of rumors among students and parents. School officials say fewer than 10 people are affected.
“We don’t know where the finish line is,” Parker said. “There may never be an explanation that we can point a finger to.”
Epidemiologists are speaking with those affected and looking at their medical records, trying to determine what, if anything, they have in common. Did they all breathe the same air? Touch the same surfaces? Spend a significant amount of time together?
“They’ll be trying to look for the clues that link the cases that have been observed,” said Bovbjerg.
The school system first became aware of a student with the mysterious symptoms on Sept. 26. A second student came forward in October, prompting officials to test air and water quality at the school, said school spokesman Chuck Lionberger. Those tests found nothing wrong, but the school system is now testing surfaces in the building, which dates to 1969.
Several more students with the symptoms have come forward in the past week, prompting the school system to send a vaguely worded letter home to parents.
Since then, however, the school has been reluctant to discuss the symptoms or the investigation. That has outraged parents, many of whom have kept their children home from school.
“They waited too late. I think it would have been a lot better if they had told us weeks ago about it,” said Beth Mattox, whose two children have not been to school since Thursday. “I have a daughter that was in a room that was tested and nobody told me about it.”

Report: Al Qaeda Planning Holiday Shopping Mall Attacks
Thursday, November 08, 2007
Law enforcement sources on Thursday confirmed an ABC report claiming Al Qaeda is planning attacks on Los Angeles and Chicago shopping malls during the busy holiday season.
At least one official told FOX News the report has been overplayed, however, saying, “Were not that worried about it” and that the warning was posted out of an “abundance of caution.”
The ABC report says Al Qaeda allegedly has been plotting for two years with the goal of disrupting the U.S. economy.
Federal officials said they could not verify the reliability of the information on which the warning is based.
According to FBI Special Agent Richard Kolko: “Portions of an FBI document, called an IIR [Intelligence Information Report], were leaked to the media. This document was intended for law enforcement and intelligence community partners for situational awareness.
“In the post 9/11 era, sharing information is our top priority. Al Qaeda messaging has clearly stated they intend to attack the U.S. or its interests; however, there is no information to state this is a credible threat. We remind people to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to authorities.”

Richard Esposito and Vic Walter Report:
Exclusivefbia_mn The FBI is warning that al Qaeda may be preparing a series of holiday attacks on U.S. shopping malls in Los Angeles and Chicago, according to an intelligence report distributed to law enforcement authorities across the country this morning. (Click here for full text.)
The alert said al Qaeda “hoped to disrupt the U.S. economy and has been planning the attack for the past two years.”
Law enforcement officials tell ABCNews.com that the FBI received the information in late September and declassified it yesterday for wide distribution.
The alert, like similar FBI and Department of Homeland Security terror alerts issued over the past five years at holiday times, raised questions about the credibility of the information.
