“Jihad and the American Left”
By J.R. Dunn
Thank you very much, Cindy. There are so many Westernized and other spelling variations for our friend Imad, and yet I believe we can think of a few more “choice” spellings.
I infer that you took a recent break and I am glad you are back. I also have spent time elsewhere of late. I hope your respite was a planned one.
I am happy to see Ruth and mammadearest here again as well.

Sheriff’s office: Deputy overpowered while taking prisoner to court
POMPANO BEACH, Florida (CNN) — A prisoner under transport to court Wednesday overpowered and shot a deputy accompanying him before escaping in the transport van, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.
Michael Mazza is suspected of shooting a sheriff’s deputy and escaping in a prisoner transport vehicle.
1 of 2 Spokesman Elliot Cohen said authorities are hunting for suspect Michael Mazza, 40, who was on his way to appear in court in Fort Lauderdale on a robbery charge.
Mazza, who was serving two life sentences for robbery, was in a wheelchair in the transport van because of complaints of back pain. Cohen said authorities now suspect Mazza was faking.
The white transport van, with green stripes and “Sheriff” written on the side, was found shortly before 10 a.m. ET in a parking lot of a residential area in northern Broward County, CNN’s John Zarrella reported.
The discovery prompted officials to put 19 schools in the Pompano Beach area on lockdown as authorities looked for Mazza, who is believed to be carrying the deputy’s weapon.
The sheriff’s deputy is in critical condition at North Broward Medical Center, Cohen said.

Terrorism: Jihad has failed, former Libyan Islamist tells al-Qaeda
Tripoli, 7 Nov. (AKI) - A former leader of an armed Islamic group in Libya, Numan Bin Uthman, has written a letter to al-Qaeda second in command Ayman al-Zawahiri telling him that Jihadi groups in Arab countries have failed.
“Dear Doctor Ayman, as I told you during a meeting in Kandahar [in Afghanistan] in 2000, the experience of the Jihadi groups in Arab countries is failed and despite our appeals, the armed groups are divided and will not unite,” he said in the letter, a copy of which was published in the London based pan-Arab daily al-Hayat.
The letter by Uthman, who is based in London, comes after an audio message by al-Zawahiri - an Egyptian medic - was released on Saturday. In it, al-Zawahiri announced that the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, had joined al-Qaeda. He also called for the ousting of regimes in North Africa.......

Twitching’ Illness Hits Several Students, Staff at Virginia School
Wednesday, November 07, 2007
VINTON, Va. A mysterious illness causing an odd “twitching” symptom has stricken several students and a staff member at a Virginia high school.
Testing continues at William Byrd High School in Roanoke County where students and staff have shown strange symptoms of twitching and spasms since September, but a cause has yet to be determined.
About 30 students staged a walkout and protest earlier this week, and the school has said about 300 of the school’s 1,200 students have been absent.
School officials say they do not plan to close the school.
Roanoke County school officials and health officials have found no environmental cause for the symptoms, which have affected fewer than 10 students, the Associated Press reported.
“I have seen them in the hallway, and it seems pretty bad,” said senior Charlie Wallace, told the Roanoke Times. “It’s uncontrollable. Twitching, that’s the only way you can describe it.”
Students and parents met Monday night with officials from the school system, the Virginia Department of Health and the companies conducting the environmental tests.
Parents asked about the symptoms and urged officials to close the school and offer classes elsewhere. But Superintendent Lorraine Lange said that health experts said that based on the environmental test results, there’s no need to close the school.
So far, the illness has sickened several students and a teacher at William Byrd High School and officials can’t specify specific symptoms to watch out for.
But one mother said her child is experiencing bouts of sudden twitching and uncontrollable arm spasms, along with headaches and dizziness.

Laughing out loud....
I noticed that a certain person was shamelessly stealing graphics that I had made or had been given to me years ago.
I wrote to the person and asked the person not to use my graphics.
Well, long story short, the person assured me that those weren’t my graphics.
So, I renamed my graphic urls and re uploaded them to my sights. Then on my old urls I made a graphic which stated something like, “Stealing graphics is a sin.”
Then I did my uploads again.
I went back to the person’s site again to look.
It seems like the main theme was, “Stealing graphics is a sin.”
Smiling...
Ping to drymans wife post regarding “twitching illness.”

Yemen: 30 al Qaeda activists sentenced for prison
al Bawaba ^ | November 07 2007
Posted on 11/07/2007 2:02:08 PM PST by knighthawk
A Yemeni court on Wednesday sentenced 30 Yemenis to between two and 15 years in prison for planning and carrying out attacks for Al-Qaeda. The convicts, part of a group of 36 accused of being members of of Al-Qaeda network, launched an attack in September 2006 on an oil refinery at Marib, 170 kilometres east of the capital Sanaa.
Petrol storage tanks at a terminal operated by the Canadian firm Nexen in southeastern Hadramut province were also targeted.
According to AFP, four of the suspects were acquitted while the court ordered the release of two others on time already served since September 2006.
Six of the main defendants were tried in absentia, although two of them — Jaber al-Banna and Mohammed al-Omdah — had recently turned themselves in, while another, Hamza al-Qaeiti, was killed in clashes with security forces.
Fugitives Nasser al-Wehaishi and Kassem al-Raimi and Ibrahim al-Huwaidi, three of the most wanted activists in Yemen, each received a 15-year jail term. Raimi and Wehaishi have also been accused by the interior ministry of masterminding a July 2 suicide bombing in Marib that killed eight Spanish tourists and two local drivers.

More than 20 workers arrested at O’Hare [illegal workers with fake security ID]
Chicago Tribune ^ | November 7, 2007
Posted on 11/07/2007 2:09:06 PM PST by charles m
More than 20 workers were arrested today at O’Hare International Airport after authorities said employees at a suburban staffing agency used fraudulent security badges to gain access to unauthorized areas of the airport.
Many of the workers arrested were illegal immigrants, authorities said.
The eight-month investigation led to the execution of a search warrant today at Ideal Staffing Solutions, 170 N. Pine Lane in Bensenville, and the arrests of two managers there: Mary Gurin, 36, of Carpentersville, and Norinye Benitez, 24, of Franklin Park, according to a statement from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Each was charged with one count of harboring illegal aliens for financial gain and one count of misuse of Social Security numbers for allegedly assisting the workers in obtaining unauthorized access to secure areas of the airport, including the tarmac, the statement said.
Gurin, a corporate secretary at Ideal Staffing, hired Benitez and signed her airport badge application, despite knowing that she was an illegal immigrant from Mexico, authorities allege.
According to criminal complaints unsealed today, Ideal Staffing managers told workers they needed identification to work at O’Hare, but that the documents did not need to be legitimate. Federal authorities allege more than 100 temporary workers employed by the agency were in possession of fraudulently obtained airport security badges, which allowed the workers to gain access to secure areas of the airport while loading pallets, freight and meals for companies doing business at O’Hare.
