Talking about the DeFrank book on Gerald Ford and the headline that Ford thought that the Vice President ought to be dumped from the 2004 ticket, possibly in favor of Rudy Giuliani.

Nothing noteworthy from the panel, save one stating that she wished, "as a reporter", that they had come out with that "when it counted," and another attributing the Dick Cheney's retention on the ticket to "Bush loyalty."

No consideration that the President actually viewed Cheney as an invaluable asset both in his Administration and in the campaign. While I suppose it's true that not many of us would have voted for John Kerry if Dick Cheney had been replaced on the ticket, I doubt many votes would have swung the other way, either.

Also, I, for one, certainly would not have been pleased, and I imagine quite a few activists would not have put in the time they did to see to it that he was reelected. In a close election like 2004, that might have made all the difference.

Hunter’s been bashing the Bush administration, Homeland Security and the military for not having military helicopters up fighting the fires from day one. No doubt that’s why he got the invite.

Phsstpok, you're ready for prime time with that spin! Hunter cut through the red tape and poked the powers that be in the butt and got something accomplished. Would you rather he'd just let it all burn down? Now, show us where Hunter "bashed" the Bush administration?

Well all things being equal I would prefer a Governor as President. They have run a miniature version of the U.S. government.

but again, my point is written about..Bill and Hillary allowed the catastrophy in N.O.

And as you've stated previously, that connection has not been well publicized. Any Pub candidate for POTUS who neglects these aspects of the Nag and Nagina of US politics will be missing a golden opportunity.

“ABC actually let Duncan Hunter have some airtime??? Oh, I have to catch this. I’ll ping the Hunter list while I’m at it.”

Thanks for the ping.

I’m so mad. I set my VCR, but my VCR clock was wrong, so I recorded the wrong program. boo hoo!

btw, MEET THE PRESS is supposed to have all of the presidential candidates on the show sooner or later, so we should see Hunter on that show one of these weeks.

I agree to an extent, though I would argue that state governments are less like miniature US governments these days. The erosion of our federalist system over the last century has seen to that.

Sorry I didn’t respond about the candy bars immediately...I have been baking and making Sunday dinner.

The expert didn’t say WHICH candy bars. He was talking about stuff smuggled onto planes and this was one of the things that had been discovered. He also talked about glass tubes filled with explosives, and how those couldn’t be detected by X-rays.

Now, show us where Hunter "bashed" the Bush administration?

For me the likely point of wanting to have him on was that Steffy thought Hunter would bash the administration, and indeed tried to bait him into it. It backfired on Steffy.

I 100% agree with you on the Clintons and Blanco conspiring to prevent Bush from helping. Heck, those of us on the hurricane threads spotted it right away.

It has been my long-held opinion that the democrats had formulated a plan in case there was another terrorist attack. That is why Kerry kept yammering about no security in the harbors and Hillary kept emphasizing that we weren’t funding first-responders. They had a plan all ready to go for the next terrorist attack, but too bad for them (and good for us) one never happened. So when Katrina came along, they rolled out their plan and used it against Bush during the hurricane and its aftermath.

Whenever I hear people say that it will take another terrorist attack to bring us together, I remind them of Katrina, because if we are hit again, the coverage will be just like Katrina coverage. Shep Smith will probably be on air crying about why we weren’t prepared, and Geraldo will be taking cameras into the blast zone, spewing all sorts of accusatory comments at the President.

Blanco was also leaning heavilly on Landrieu. Actually I never say reporting of the Clintons advising her. But it was obvious Landrieu was in there knee deep encouraging the bashing of the President. I will never forget her twitching like Tourettes at the presser after the levees went. She looked guilty as sin.

Remember, James Lee Witt showed up to “help” Blanco (for a large fee, of course). There was a report that Blanco had been on the phone with people in DC who were urging her not to deal with Bush. I know that showed up on the hurricane threads.

That’s not my perception of what he was doing but how I’ve seen some on the left try to spin Hunter’s intervention with the Pentagon to get the aircraft released. It’s been cited as part of the general complaints about “not enough resources because of Iraq” meme. I think they had him on hoping that they could get him to say something they could spin that way.

Wow! It would take me the rest of my life to digest all that stuff you’ve got researched! Thanks.

Hope Laury did make the sleeze cry like a little girl. He was so patronizing to her (haven’t watched yet, going by the quotes here)

Yeah, the President needs to ratchet down the rhetoric while he parks the 82nd Airborne Inspection Team on their Border.

AH, I had forgotten that. He was BC’s emergency dude.

Nice that we can consolidate our memories. At least at my age.

It was so evident from day I that landrieu/blanco were playing politics.

Landrieu is next to be ousted is my hope.

re your Daylight Savings time comments.

I wish they wouldn’t Fall Back at all. It gets dark at 5 o’clock.

When am I supposed to walk my dog???

Have They given a thought to that?

Everything I need to know I learn on Free Republic. Two days ago I learned to my horror that first class postage is 41 cents. I’d been using my 39 cent stamps. Apparently the post office didn’t notice ... I haven’t gotten anything back.

And today I’m sitting at the computer, annoyed because it didn’t change my time and thinking I had an hour to spend on this thread before church and, well, you know the rest.

I had to leave and hustle.
