"Richard M. Nixon (R) 1969-1974 — Nixon declared birth control a national priority, seeking “adequate family planning services [for] … all those who want them but cannot afford them.” President Nixon signed Title X into law, which made contraceptives available regardless of income."

Hey noob, that sounds remarkably like Juliette's term as Mayor of New York.

"Particularly G.H.W. Bush, who received personal assurances from Sununu, who was supposed to know Souter well, that he was a reliable conservative."

Also GHWB appointed Justice Clarence Thomas, without whom the ban on partial-birth abortion would not have had a snowball's chance (nor the correct decision in Bush v. Gore).

Particularly G.H.W. Bush, who received personal assurances from Sununu, who was supposed to know Souter well, that he was a reliable conservative.

Souter was strongly recommended by Senator Warren Rudman , who had helped Bush win the New Hampshire primary.

Rudman knew that Souter was a liberal and is still quite proud of the way he “fooled” George H. Bush.

Bush , like Nixon, were not really focused on who they nominated, just as long as it was politically expedient. Thank goodness we didn’t let GWB put Harriet Myers on the Supreme Court.

It is what should be referred to as a “Jesse Jackson Republican”. That is the exact opposite of a “Reagan Democrat”

Recommending a great read by JimRob...

Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?

Yeah, Rudy did take a different path and NY is better for it.

No one can take away Rudy’s crime fighting credentials. They are solid. The man really turned NYC around.

But I won’t give him a vote for President. He would make an excellent AG however.

‘Hard to see why Gotti would have needed anyone else’s vote to do that.’

Not if you know how LEO’s react when one of their own is killed, let alone a DA.

Every illegal activity is brought to a standstill, every single person with a pending case has a great opportunity to buy their way out of it with information.

So organized crime doesn’t do such things ‘lightly’. Consider the Godfather movie, and the result of assasinating a dirty police Captain.

Thats very close to reality in its portrayal of what the reaction is to such a thing.

Its ‘bad for business’ across the board.

I have no qualm with anyone who opposes Giuliani strongly in the Republican primary. But when they say they would prefer Hillary Clinton to Rudy, then something is wrong.

When I read your post, it reminded me of what is happening in my area. I live in a dry county, but liquor is available. The local Sheriff’s office has raids on the bootleggers every so often, usually before the elections. The arrest help calm the local sheep and make the Sheriff look like he is doing a good job.
It is rumored the Sheriff calls the bootleggers in and they choose who will be arrested. :0)

Interesting how the Post drags this old story out the day after Rudy’s horrific blunder of rooting for the Red Sox (a cynical ploy to help him in NH). How convenient!

Rudy isn’t scared of abortion defenders, gay rights groups or anyone else. Unlike most conservative politicians, however, he picks his battles carefully and usually wins them. Though he may rate as a liberal in your book, no one in politics today would do more to bedevil the left and turn the tide against them. Unlike Duncan Hunter, he may not be your knight in shining armor, but he is a canny fighter who would move America back to the center and away from moonbat politics.

Exactly my point.

There's a difference between somebody who is poorly advised or "fooled", and somebody who deliberately lies. You can to some degree fix the former, by more thorough investigation, better advisers, or corrective education (as in the Miers case), but you can't fix liars.

Judging from Giuliani's track record, he has a pretty fair chance of being in the latter category.

Well, George W. Bush not only was “fooled” about Souter, he also lied about raising taxes. And I am sure you voted for him twice.

There is no evidence Giuliani has lied. You may disagree with him, but he never was a liar like Mr. Read My Lips was.

No, if you can't tell the difference between a lie, a betrayal of trust, and a broken campaign promise, you're going to have a problem figuring out why Giuliani is a problem.

He's hewing pretty close to the line lying about his position on abortion, refusing to answer questions and obfuscating. But he clearly lied to the NRA at their convention, in view of his absolutely plain and overwhelming track record strenuously supporting gun control. . . . including vigorously prosecuting a meritless lawsuit against gun dealers.

And he is an oathbreaker on a truly herculean scale. I'll ask again, if he won't keep a solemn vow, what makes you think he'll keep a mere campaign promise? Campaign promises aren't worth much if they haven't been backed up by consistent actions that support the promise.

Here is an older version of this story

So how much did this have to do with getting increased rents vs controlling the mob? And, at the end there is a mention of Rudi, as a Fed, having the Feds working on this for years with no result.

LOL. I saw a shirt recently that said: “Don’t steal. The government doesn’t like competition.” About the same idea. That said, I have no time for thugs whether in or out of government.

I agree with post # 51. The Post drags out this article and then FOX news covers it like it is some new threat.

I really worry about a candidate that has all this support from a News group like Murdochs.

The fact this article was dragged out now is “fishy”.

“The bosses of New York’s five Mafia families in the mid-1980s came a hair-trigger away from sanctioning a hit on then-federal prosecutor Rudy Giuliani, according to bombshell FBI records made public TODAY.”

This was just released today. It isn’t old news.

I fail to see the interest in this.

They didn’t whack him so.....what has this to do with the election?
