Turns out that not wearing a flag lapel pin isn't the only way Barack Obama chooses to show that he's a different kind of Democrat.
Have a look at the photo from the October 1, 2007 edition of "Time." It shows Obama, Hillary and Bill Richardson at the Steak Fry of Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) on September 17 in Indianola, IA, apparently reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Richardson and Clinton have their hands on their heart. But not Obama. Does he perhaps believe that, like wearing the flag pin, the hand on the heart isn't "true patriotism"?
"Time" ran the photo without comment. I haven't seen coverage of this anywhere else in the MSM. Perhaps some enterprising reporter can ask the Illinois senator about his decision to spurn this American tradition.
Meanwhile, does Obama have some third act or omission planned to demonstrate that he's not falling for those corny, old-fashioned displays of patriotism?

“During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart.” — United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171

Sure it it! I just emailed it to all the voters in my address list!
This 'family death' stuff is rather new here - I'm fortunate to have held onto both parents until just 6 weeks ago when Dad died at age 94. He, being a CPA, was all set to be inducted in World War II when it was discovered he had TB - so Mom, a WAC, got discharged to do the (routine at the time) isolation thing with him....so she's the proud Vet of the family; Corporal Jewel Evans (redacted) Batavia!!
the hand on the heart
Perhaps it is forbidden in the Koran.
I believe it too.
I’m sure you know all this stuff...but it’s new to me, and got me floored...
PreJac...the democrat way. “Git ‘er done”
This is an easy one to figure out.
When you greet a muslim, and after a handshake, they put their hand to their heart it means, “Your life is important to me.”
Obama didn’t want anyone to think the life of our flag is important to him.
My friend we support our country, the troops and the traditions that makes this country great. I have have done nothing but this.
Condolences for your father and I know the age doesn’t make it easier.
I would love to see your photos of these historical places that I will probably never see.
Tom Harkin has a hard time being relevant these days, now that there are no Marxist dictators to suck up to.
I hate to admit this but I have noticed that unless it is at a sporting event, much of the people living on the east coast do not sing during the National Athem.

Maybe they don’t know the words.
“Jose, can jew zee,
bide adon surly light.
ower the ram parts we wash,
Yadda, yadda, something, gleeming.”
John Gambling is a Quaker and a very decent fellow. Can't judge all people by the actions of those few.
That is when I showed him the you tube of Red Skeleton and what the pledge means.
I also play it every year in my 7th grade social studies class. I figure it is never too late to learn.
Sorry folks, this is obviously photoshopped. There is no support for the flag in the rear. The woman on the right is half the size of Obama. If that were a matter of perspective, the chair on the right would be half the size of the chair on the left. It looks like it’s about 4/5 the size. They’re looking in at least two different directions, maybe three.
Check out the shadow from Obama’s legs. There should be shadows falling in the same direction from the two women. There is a shadow behind Hillary, but the angle looks different from Obama’s shadow. It looks like Time got snookered!
I forgot to mention that the flag is perfectly straight even though it’s outside. It’s also cut off at the bottom.
That was taken directly from the times website, the distortion is probably caused by a wide angle lens
