I forgot to mention that the flag is perfectly straight even though it’s outside. It’s also cut off at the bottom.

and the flag is thumb tacked to some sort of wood structure, you can see some of the tacks on the left side of the flag and you can see an angled board used to hold up the frame/flag

I don’t buy your supposition.
The shadows look ok to me, The perspective is right (Look at where the chair seat hits on all of their legs, Pretty close)and you can see the support for the flag behind Obama’s left cheek. The flag looks cut off because it drops behind a row of hay bales.
