(2007-10-12) In the midst of a push by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, to pass a resolution labeling the Ottoman (Turk) Empire genocidal for the death of 1.5 million Armenians in 1915, House Republicans have introduced a bill condemning the Roman Empire for the wholesale slaughter and domination of most of the known world from about 41 B.C. to 476 A.D.
Rep. Pelosi, who often refers to her Italian heritage, called the GOP move nothing short of a hate crime and a cynical effort by Republicans to overshadow what could be the first significant accomplishment of the Democrat Congressional majority.

BWAA HAHAHAH HA! Absolutely perfect! The Marxist Left loves to pillory the Founding Fathers as slave owners when, in fact, that was the norm throughout human history to that point. The very term slave is derived from the word Slove. The Roman word for the white folks they conquered in Eastern Europe and placed into bondage as spoils of war. As usual, the libs put up a straw man issue to further the destruction of Western values and way of life.
What will it accomplish?
Well, it will embolden any minority group that has a grudge against the turks. The kurds, the armenians, the assyrian christians, the maronite christians, the greeks, the georgians, most peoples of the balkins, the circassians(if any still exist), druze muslims, alawite muslims, there are probably a dozen others that I don’t know of. There are alot of people that hate the turks.
Also, it will accomplish this...when these minority groups are emboldened, the turks will blame the US for it.
Yes yes, I know that. Now read this and educate yourself.

By the way. The phrase “sold down the river” refers to African blacks taking slaves in tribal warfare and selling some of them to mostly Arab slave traders who would then sell them to the Europeans. Most travel in Africa was via river traffic. Thus the Sold down the river phrase.
Obviously I wasn’t referring to them.
Hmmm....I always thought that referred to the practice of sending troublesome blacks further South as field hands.
What about that thing that Bucky Dent did to the Boston Red Sox?
Nope. It's a phrase as American as apple pie, referring to selling slaves from the Upper South down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. First reference 1837.
Slaves in the Deep South were often worked much harder and treated more brutally than those in the Upper South, especially in the sugar plantations of LA, and slaves were terrified of being sold down the river.

BTW I think I heard today that when this condemnation bill came up in 1999 or 2000 that Bill Clinton asked speaker Hastert to table it so that it would not impede or threaten our use of Turkish airspace to enforce the no-fly zone over northern Iraq...
Hastert complied in the name of national interest...
Wheredahell was the “Coffee-Spit Warning” with that?? LMAO!
If republicans had brain cells they would have introduced a seperate resolution without the word but that used the same definition.
they would have trumped the democrats and taken the emotional issue away from them.
Dang! There go our Roman allies. I don’t think we can win this war w/o Vorenus and Pullo and the might of the 13th legion.
Thir-teen!
This is what will happen in Iraq when Queen Hillary pulls out the troops in 2009. But, as to the RINOs in Congress, it is not three working brain cells they lack. What they lack is a set of balls. You could not find one complete set in all of the RINO Congress.
shouldn’t they have breastplates? Maybe they plan to fight the Persian girls beach volleyball team.
Can anyone explain why we are condemning the Turks for this alleged atrocity after nearly 100 years and just what it will accomplish?????????????? #11
You know the Dems love to get the minority’s votes...They need those last 2 Ottoman Turkish votes out there in the hinterland
