:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Al Qaeda 'Re-Emerging' in Pakistan Sanctuaries

The U.S. military said Tuesday it expected Al Qaeda to continue its "re-emergence" in sanctuaries in Pakistan's tribal areas from where it supported attacks in Afghanistan.

Sanctuary was provided to Al Qaeda and Taliban rebels after Islamabad signed a peace deal with militants in a desperate attempt to quell the unrest in its federally administered areas in September 2006, a U.S. military official said.

The militants called off the deal in July this year after Pakistani security forces raided a radical mosque in Islamabad where rebels had massed. Dozens were killed in those raids. Full story...

Thanks for the kind words folks, I’m glad you liked the post. Just something we all need to be reminded of once and again. I too need to remember what’s truly important.

Just got back from the annual Octoberfest camping party. Great friends, great food, great music. What a wonderful weekend...worst part about it is it has to end.

Seasonal reminder: Autumn and Winter are fast approaching. Remember to adjust car survival kits to winter/cold weather gear (blankets, etc). Best time to do this is when your winterizing the vehicles which I must tend to very soon.

Have a favor to ask: please reply back with long term (3+ years) survival ideas. Any and all information greatly appreciated.

Hi AD.

I don’t have any ideas for a 3 year survival plan, but I’m glad you had a great weekend.

“China Unveils its New Power”
By Bhaskar Roy

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece, the People’s Daily, recently published a photograph of its navy’s most modern submarine, Type 093. It had finally achieved its ambition to deploy a second generation nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN). It has two nuclear power plants, steam turbine drive and can reach a speed of at least 30 knots. Its operational dive depth is reported to be 400 metres, for a standstill noise avoidance position possibly to counter easy detection.

The submarine has a variety of armament including long range anti-ship torpedoes, anti-ship cruise missiles and land attack cruise missile. The Type 093 was built with Russian assistance. It is to be followed up by the deployment of the Type 094 nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), currently under trial.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RELEASE No. 20071007-02
October 7, 2007

Coalition Forces detain three suspected special group terrorists
Multi-National Division – Baghdad

BAGHDAD – Coalition Forces from the 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division detained three terrorists associated with the Iranian-backed Special Groups Militia during a pre-dawn raid in Sadr City Oct. 6.

The individuals detained during the raid are believed to be members of the Special Groups Militia network known for kidnapping, facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively-formed penetrators from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq into Iran for military training.

No shots were fired by Coalition Forces during this precision raid.

The three insurgents captured are believed to be responsible for the kidnapping of five British contractors in Baghdad May 29.

“This operation shows a significant level of cooperation between Coalition Forces and the Iraqi people. We continue to hope that the leadership in Sadr City opens the door for meaningful negotiations that will benefit the community,” said Lt. Col. David Oclander, executive officer for the 2nd “Falcon” Brigade Combat Team. “Until that time, we remain focused on improving the security situation by capturing those associated with special groups and anyone who is unwilling to follow the Muqtada al-Sadr cease fire”

Charges: 2 Tried to Export F-14 Parts

Charges: 2 Tried to Export F-14 Parts

Oct 7, 2007

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Two Utah men are accused of trying to illegally export surplus pieces of F-14 fighter jets, a plane that is flown only in Iran. Abraham Trujillo, 61, and David Waye, 22, both of Ogden, are alleged to have tried exporting the parts to Canada, but the charges don’t specify how they supposedly got the parts and don’t list all buyers.

Federal agents placed online orders, then intercepted the goods before they made it out of the country, the charges said.

Trujillo and Waye were charged Friday with three counts each of attempting to export a defense article without a license. Telephone listings could not be found for the men.

Iran, trying to maintain its F-14s, is aggressively seeking components from the retired U.S. Tomcat fleet. Members of Congress have expressed concerns about the Department of Defense selling surplus F-14 parts because they’re worried they could wind up in Iranian aircraft.

The U.S. sold the F-14 to Iran in the 1970s when it was under the rule of the Western-friendly shah. In 1979, the shah was deposed, and the U.S. eventually banned the sale of military equipment to Iran.

The U.S. attorney’s office says federal immigration agents discovered a website with listings of F-14 parts offered by Trujillo and his Ogden business, NSN Specialists. Over several months in 2006 and 2007, agents bought cable assemblies and other F-14 and F-4 jet items from Trujillo.

The men will receive a summons to appear before a federal magistrate. Penalties can carry 10 years in prison and a $1 million fine per count.

Ahmadinejad says Iran won’t negotiate over its “nuclear rights”
IHT ^ | Published: October 5, 2007

Posted on 10/06/2007 7:49:06 AM PDT by Perdogg

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed that Iran will not negotiate over its “nuclear rights” but said the government was prepared to answer questions from the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency.

The comments Friday came as French diplomatic officials said Iran is set to run almost 3,000 centrifuges by the end of the month, nearing the threshold for industrial-scale uranium enrichment.
