WHY DEMOCRATS JUST ABSOLUTELY HATE BEING CALLED .....
I've always being one who likes to get under the skin of the collective left, and glorioski, have I found a way to rattle Democrats. You just refer to their wonderful party as the Democrat Party! Lordy, does this put a burr in their thongs.
Well .. now I think I've found out why! A buddy of mine at CNN (who, for obvious reasons, shall remain unnamed) provided me with some interesting information. Joseph J. Ellis wrote a book called "Founding Brothers, The Revolutionary Generation." I ordered my copy this morning. One of the Amazon.com reviews for this book says "This book is really unique in that it gives a really interesting perspective not only on the men [our founding fathers] , but the dynamic between them." Now in that book by this renowned historian you will find some tasty information on the origination of the word "democrat." Many times I've told you that our founding fathers were none too fond of the idea of democracy, or, as they viewed it, mob rule. Here's the quote:
"... the term "democrat" originated as an epithet and referred to 'one who panders to the crude and mindless whims of the masses.'" Don't you love it? Could anything better define today's Democrat Party? Get with the program folks. It's the Democrat, not the "Democratic" Party.

I doubt thats the reason Democrats dislike the term, for the simple reason that it is likely few of them are aware of its meaning at the time of the Founding.
Then it is the bounden duty of all good Freepers to remind them of it at every opportunity -- like at all these counter-coward rallies.
“... the term “democrat” originated as an epithet and referred to ‘one who panders to the crude and mindless whims of the masses.’”
Our founders’ also knew that if the crude and mindless whims of the masses based on the crude and mindless whims of a feckless media were followed they would surely fall into the hands of those who would be dictators and tyrants.

Ha! That’s a two-fer!
Right on!
That "new description" has been around for almost a hundred years. Communists regularly used the term "progressive" to describe themselves when the word "commie" was too hot to use openly. They were always "in the vanguard of progressive forces struggling against the capitalist oppressor". The buzzword "progressive" was used that way even in this country from the 1920s to the 70s.
But modern Democratics don't even know their own history. They wait until DU and Kos get their daily faxes and conference calls to learn what they are to know that day.
The other problem for lefties is that "democratic" is an adjective, and "democrat" a noun. "Republican" is both a noun and an adjective. You'd think they'd be more aware of the English language, especially after eight years of having to parse every sentence coming out the the mouth of every clintonista.
Yes, I was just reading about this this weekend. The next step after a democracy...is communism. That’s why the donkey party loves calling us...which is a lie...a democracy....since they are all commies...they envision America as a communist country. NOT NOT NOT...and never will be...they are history...they just don’t know it. Just a bunch of THUGS...
I prefer Dhimmicrat Party.
‘But modern Democratics don’t even know their own history. They wait until DU and Kos get their daily faxes and conference calls to learn what they are to know that day.’
Indeed, that does seem to be the case.
Whats even more amusing is they have short term memory, and therefore can’t recall just how many times the midget at dailykos or the kooks at moveon.org have been wrong these past seven years, on a wide array of topics.

I prefer to call them “Social Democrats”.
What I prefer to call them is not allowable language here.
