Bush adviser: Humans caused climate change
UPI Via ScienceDaily ^ | September 14, 2007

LONDON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- John Marburger, one of U.S. President George Bush's scientific advisers, said climate change is real and was likely caused by humanity.

The presidential science adviser said that he was more than 90 percent certain that the current state of climate change was the direct result of greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans, the BBC reported Friday.

The Office of Science and Technology Policy director also said that without significant cuts in the output of carbon dioxide worldwide, the Earth may one day become "unlivable."

"The CO2 accumulates in the atmosphere and there's no end point, it just gets hotter and hotter, and so at some point it becomes unlivable," Marburger said.

Marburger's comments support a recent review from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the status of Earth's climate.

The BBC said Marburger's alarming comments come as a series of significant meetings regarding climate change are set to take place in Washington and at the United Nations.

Probably soon to be “former” Presidential scientific advisor...

The Bush is advisor apparently is following Fred Thompson's lead:

Fred Thompson's about two weeks into his official campaign for president, and he's tapping some Texas donors in a two-day swing through the Lone Star State. He's also happy to get some free media attention.

Thompson sat down with me for a one-on-one interview early this morning (who says he doesn't work hard? 8am is early!)

Here's some of what he said...

On global warming:

Q: Is global warming a man-made problem?

A: From what we know now, it seems to be in part, certainly. I think that we don't know how much yet. There are a lot of other things we don't know. There's got to be a global solution to it, there's got to be an international solution before we can do anything. We could take a lot of drastic measures here and it wouldn't even make any difference if China, and India and a lot of other countries don't participate.

Had he said anything different in Europe they would have looked at him like he had a third head. Europeans are True Believers in GW, and there is virtually zero dissent to be heard over there. They don’t have a First Amendment, and the Government/MSM complex rules.

John Marburger is an expert in nonlinear optics (lasers) which makes him no more qualified to speak about global warming than any of the posters here at FR.

Maybe he just read Algore’s book and then slept at a Holiday Inn, which made him feel qualified.

Has anyone asked what part of the annual increase in CO2 levels are due to auto emissions alone. It would really be insane if auto emmissions caused 5% of the total CO2 levels. To reduce CO2 by 5% we would have to eliminate all auto use. What if we had to eliminate emissions by 30% to do any good? What would we have to eliminate next? Domesticated animals? Electicity production using fossil fuels?

The real answer is that these carbon nuts are not interested in the reduction of CO2. There are interested in the increase of power so they can control people.

so at some point it becomes unlivable

Probably in a billion years or so. After all, the earth was "unlivable" back in the ice ages, and before that, when it was a mass of molten lava. "Unlivable" shows a bit of hysteria, here.

No doubt Bush and his admin has “jumped the shark” to liberal globalism

LOL! You write this as if it's something new...like liberal globalism wasn't part of the Bush genetic code!

Hopefully, his is not the majority viewpoint among W's scientific advisers.

I certainly hope he has more than one!

The initiative and leadership from the executive the last year or so, in all of the critical (or loud) issues of the day are truly disappointing...

Looking forward to change, if at all possible.

Exactly!

Millions of deaths and cultural disruption doesn’t mean it’s “unlivable!” What an exaggeration!

How do the seasonal variations in CO2 concentration create the seasons.

Well, first of all you have to forget all that stuff about the spinning Earth being tilted at an angle of twenty-something degrees to the ecliptic, and cooling during its Northern winters, warming during its summers. Forget about the Sun. Or better still, think of the Earth as being flat.

Think instead about CO2 in the atmosphere. During summer, when plant photosynthesis is maximum, plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, and reduce its levels, and thus reduce global warming, resulting in a subsequent cold winter. During winter, when plant photosynthesis is at a minimum, CO2 levels tend to rise, resulting in global warming - and the subsequent warm summer.

See. Quite easy to explain.

You’ll probably want to know about anthropogenic seasonal variation too. That is, how humans manage to create the seasons. And this happens because, during winter, humans tend to light fires to keep warm, and these fires generate CO2, which causes global warming, and results in warm summers. During these warm summers, humans stop burning fires, and the excess CO2 is absorbed by plants, reducing atmospheric CO2 concentrations, and bringing global cooling, and the subsequent winter.

The result, as I’m sure you’ll see, is that the seasonal cycle of spring-summer-autumn-winter is entirely created by human activity, and if humans would simply stop burning fires in winter, this seasonal variation would vanish, and terrestrial surface temperatures would remain more or less constant.

Convinced? I’m sure you are. If you want to save the world from the endless cycle of the destruction of the creation, all you have to do is to not turn on your heating system when temperatures fall 10 or 20 degrees C below zero. It would also help if you stayed outside, and didn’t wear any clothes, or ate anything. You know by now that it makes no sense to do stupid things like that, right?

The first time I read the headline, I thought it stated "Hamas caused climate change."

Me too. I'm glad I saw your post before posting the exact thing.

“The presidential science adviser said that he was more than 90 percent certain that the current state of climate change was the direct result of greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans, the BBC reported Friday.”

What a jerk! A man of science giving percentage points of his convection that mankind’s activities have contributed to a minor degree of a questionable temperature increase that would effect mankind both positively and negatively but no one can say for certain which would be best.

Remember Freudian Psychoanalysis? A medical industry of one trillion twentieth century dollars that was built entirely on junk science and no one was ever cured.

To the Global Warming junk scientists of today a trillion dollars will be pocket change.

And many people of this World will die unnecessarily because of it.

I find it hysterical that anyone could believe the dark ages are over. That somehow science and truth are now at lead of civilization. The science IS very clear that anthropogenic global warming is non sense. Its a tax and redistribution scheme only.

The fact that so many "academic's" and "scientist's" follow this mantra is symbolic of the darkness of this age. When the most powerful weapon they have is ridicule of the dissenters who by the way own the fact arguments, when the hockey stick theory (using the last 2 data points) can even for a moment be used "scientifically" to describe the path warming will take, when we cant even measure a global temperature, when 95% of greenhouse gases is wapor vapor with the same "effect" as the 3% CO2, When model after model fails only to be reworked and reworked failing each time in all but a political solution we are not in an age of enlightenment. When ridicule is used as weapon against facts...

Part of the program for the elite liberals is to rid the world of a portion of it's population.

They have no conscience, it is part of their picture for the future.

From his biography...

http://www.ostp.gov/html/bio_marburger.html

“While at the University of Southern California, Marburger contributed to the rapidly growing field of nonlinear optics, a subject created by the invention of the laser in 1960. He developed theory for various laser phenomena and was a co-founder of the University of Southern California’s Center for Laser Studies. His teaching activities included “Frontiers of Electronics,” a series of educational programs on CBS television.”

Just as I expected... He was a Professor of Physics and Electrical Engineering, with absolutely education or training in the study of earth’s climate. He’s talking out his butt.
