Just a heads up if you're shopping for lunch meats between now and election 2008. The owner of Boar's Head brand lunch meats is a *HUGE* donor to the DNC. He has given nearly $200,000 to the DNC since 2003...and nearly $900,000 to Democratic 527 groups in 2004.
In 2004, I posted to another forum that he was a very large donor to the Democratic party, and I stated that I was boycotting his brand. Surprisingly, he actually posted a response on the forum, and stated that his "days of political contributions" were over.
Apparently, he lied: http://opensecrets.org/indivs/search.asp?key=xh9as&txtName=brunckhorst,%20frank&txtState=(all%20states)&txtAll=Y&Order=N
If you're buying his products, you're funding members of the Democratic party, including Hillary Clinton. Just an FYI.
I thought liberals and democrats shunned meat?
Okay, to be fair- the Florida phosphate industry has really screwed up Tampa Bay. No doubt.
But geez louise, why the HELL would you pump that kind of money into the DNC? This guy has more money than sense, because that’s completely naive.
Prograssive? Do tell.
Actually, I’d like to boycott all insurance!
2 Kings 6:25
What a moron. He likes to pay taxes. So why didn’t he just send his tax cut back to the government and ask them to reduce the defecit.
Aw...hypocrisy I imagine.
I'll buy Kunzler. Now, more than ever.
At least *I* know they'll never waste their monies on Socialists.
BTW, Frank.....just a quick question. Since ya didn't want the tax cut, why didn't ya do what any supposedly "good" pinko would do and up the pay for yer friggin' workers???!!!
Oh, yeah, or fork over that 900k+ to some 100% tried and true American charity working to better all of America's children.
Sorry, Frank. Your products are overpriced and generic when compared to my local sources of meats.
Say hello to Uncle Joe, Cousin Pol Pot and the Chairman when ya get to where you belong, in the end.
Anyone who supports George Bush is fine with me. I don't boycott Walmart because they buy from China. Walmarts has the lowest price. Boars Head has the finest meats so I buy them.
I put my money where my mouth is
I agree.
I thank God I live in a country where we can agree to disagree and freely express our opinions.
Again I could not agree more.
Dem's have baggage as well - most notably trial attorneys - another cancer.
This guy could be a conservative Republican soon.
For some reason I think you have a grudge against the company. I don't see you declaring no conflict of interest for your boycott. I have to ask, Are using the power of Freeping for your own good? I don't agree with Mr. B on some issues but he does not deserve to be trashed in this manner.
Really? Their meat is pretty expensive too. I think they simply prorate the cost of the political contributions to every pound of meat they sell.

The Democrats, beholden to the environmentalists have already labeled processed food as the #1 cause of global warming.
Boar’s Head will soon meet PETA, the Sierra Club and Al Gore.
Then, he will become a conservative.
I don’t even know if we have that brand around here, but I’ll add it to my list of personal boycotts (along with all Hormel products and Progressive insurance). Thanks for the tip.
He and I had a very respectful conversation on the matter, and it ended with him proclaiming to an entire forum that his “days of political contributions are over.” I took him on his word, and went back to buying his products. But just a few weeks ago, I looked up his name on opensecrets, and to my dismay saw that he donated an additional $200,000 to Democrats since he made the pledge not to.
Is that a personal grudge? Perhaps...but it doesn’t change the fact that a large portion of Boar’s Head’s profits go to electing Democrats.
It’s still his personal money. Sorry. Unless votes are being bought it’s supposedly still up to the people to elect candidates to Congress.
Perhaps we should just require that business owners not be allowed to donate to political causes. BTW, that’s sarcasm folks.
“I respect those who may boycott Boars Head products because of my beliefs. However, I know that my tax cut should have been used to reduce our deficit or to reduce payroll taxes for the middle-class.”
Our tax cut went to restore the decades of tax INCREASES that the Democrats impaled us with, in particular hizzoner Dan Rostenkoski..Reagan reduced the taxes, Clinton raised them in a record increase, and Bush lowered them again, especially the hated Estate Tax..Now the Dems want to raise taxes by billions—to pay for universal healthcare, and to greatly increase their entitlements to all their constituents..well no thanks..I don’t feel that any group is Entitled to grab money just like that..it is our hard earned middle class working dollars that are paying these Entitlements to those who will not work, or work only when necessary. Enough of socialism under the Democrats....and your baloney is lousy too !
I recently started buying Boar’s Head for the quality, especially because their meats are gluten-free (I have sensitivity). I have to say it is delicious!
You know, I have a liberal friend who suggested this idea. His idea wasn't about having the government force it on companies, but to give them tax incentives to raise their workers pay. He was talking about large businesses where the CEO has enough to spare and then some, not a mom and pop establishment.
The only thing I can contribute from personal knowledge is that he has really good looking trucks.
They are so well done they proclaim affluence.....certainly not fare for the downtrodden poor liberals seem to love to care for.
I didn't see anywhere, in any postings, that anyone said it wasn't his money. Did I miss that statement by someone?
Of course it's his personal money, and there should never be a law against him doing whatever he wants with it, as he is obviously doing.
However, as a simple, logical follow-on to your statement, the people who want to boycott him, will be spending their personal money elsewhere, so what's the difference?
Sorry.
About what?
Unless votes are being bought its supposedly still up to the people to elect candidates to Congress.
Ummm, ok. I must have missed the postings that said it wasn't.
Perhaps we should just require that business owners not be allowed to donate to political causes. BTW, thats sarcasm folks.
Perhaps we should just require that people not be allowed to buy from merchants other than those who make products you like. No sarcasm here, just putting a match to the strawman.
I fail to understand what makes some folks feel that they should decide what a purchaser can do with their money, in the same post where they try to convince them that a product maker can do whatever he wants to with his money.
Consumers can not buy from someone for ANY reason. It can be because they don't want to support a businessman supporting leftists who will raise their taxes, to a nasty tempered clerk at the business's checkout stand, or anything in between.
That's called the "power of the purse", and it's a bedrock rule of American life.
We may not always like it when the rule goes against conservative businesses, but that doesn't change the value of such a free enterprise rule.
I vote with my wallet...Haven’t worn Levis in a long time and won’t buy Boar’s Head crap anymore
I have no problem with other people wanting to boycott, but it gets ridiculous that every time someone supports a candidate we don’t agree with or has more liberal views posters will say we need to do yet another boycott. Eventually, there won’t be much left to boycott if we’re only going with people who agree with us.
