Rasmussen(9/12/2007) Thompson 28% Giuliana 20%...

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll Wednesday, September 12, 2007

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that Fred Thompson on top once again in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination, Thompson is now the top choice for 28% of Likely Republican Primary Voters matching his highest level of support recorded to date. The question at the moment is how long the bounce from his official entry into the race will last. Rudy Giuliani, who has been the frontrunner for most of the year, is eight points behind Thompson with support from 20%. That figure reflects the lowest level of support recorded all year for the New Yorker. Data released yesterday shows that Republicans consider Giuliani the most electable candidate from their party.

Arizona Senator John McCain earns 12% of the vote and has moved a point ahead of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at 11%. While the one-point difference is statistically insignificant, this is the first time in months that McCain has moved ahead of Romney by any margin. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee remains atop the second tier at 6% (see recent daily numbers).

There is little change in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. New York Senator Hillary Clinton attracts 42% of the vote from Likely Democratic Primary Voters. Barack Obama is the top choice for 22% while John Edwards attracts 18% (see recent daily numbers). New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is a distant fourth at 3%

“ALL of the debates! They’re worthless.”

Except in the the post nomination process, when the most articulate candidate, who can think quickly on his feet during the televised debates, will be needed to try and counter the MSM’s post debate raptured acclamation of Hillary’s performance.

Appearing on Jay Leno and being seen by over 6,000,000 viewers, was a smart move by Fred. The NH debate had an audience of 3,000,000.

Also, each Leno viewer may be more "valuable" than each debate viewer. This is because many of the debate viewers are interested in political things anyway and would find out about Thompson anyway. Many of the Leno viewers are not and would not (at this early stage). So, hopefully, Thompson reached out and snagged a few otherwise apolitical people who have now become supporters.

Hmmmm.

I see the two as very distinct catagories, for the simple reason I’ve never bought into the over the top, unsupported claim that ‘terrorists are coming across the board illegally!’.

Thats a load of BS.

The jihadists that would love a bigger, ‘better’ 9/11 attack against us don’t need to cross the US/Mexican border ‘illegally’.

That said, yep, Rudy’s position on illegal immigration is weak, based on his actions as mayor of New York, and his subsequent explanations of it.

No... I will not vote for Rudy Giuliani under any circumstances. I believe electing a liberal Democrat will be horrible for the country. However, electing a liberal Republican is horrible for the country and destroys any chance of a Conservative agenda having success with either party.

I second what Ingar said. It bears repeating.

May I add, electing a liberal RINO muddies the political water to the point that the general population cannot differentiate between what a Republican stands for and what a Democrat stands for.

No you are either blind or a HUGE FOOL.

They are pretty much the same in philosophy, government is the answer. They both push the limits of government authority and have a penchant for amassing power into a centralized government at the expense of individual liberty.

They both oppose a literal interpretation of the 2nd amendment and favor disarming the public and counting on government to protect the citizens from criminals rather than trusting the public to protect themselves.

They both oppose protecting the life of unborn children. They both favor seizing the income of citizens and using that money to pay for abortions. They both support socialism and income redistribution.

They both oppose enforcement of US sovreignty and encourage illegal immigration from unskilled, illiterate 3rd world peasants rather than streamlining the process for Highly educated, skilled, useful and legal immigrants. They both favor seizing the income of citizens and redistributing that money to illegal 3rd world peasants, unwilling to make life better in thier own homeland.

They both are unable to live in a stable, loving family, have no qualms with adultery and thus are not trustworthy with other promises or covenants they enter into. Neither are they trustworthy when it comes to defending traditional family values.

They are both unable to distinguish between natural and normal sexuality and fringe, even perverted behavior. They have both done all they could to normalize unhealthy sexuality and promiscuity in the way they have conducted thier lives and the policies they have supported in government.

They both supported the invasion of Iraq, and they both support the global war on terror. Hitlery is just riding the fence for the primary.

So tell me, where is the real difference. Rudi’s a guy, is that it? Rudi has an R behind his name? Power for the party regardless of what that party stands for and regardless of what those with that power will do?

I may be brain dead to you but I would imagine that all of the lemmings believe this of the one who isn’t marching with the rest of them off the edge of a cliff.

“I wonder, can you Thompson supporters say the same? Will you vote for whomever is nominated and stand behind them or will you act like children, take your football and go home to pout?”

I’ll bite.
I originally was going to support as much as possible as many conservatives as possible, then Republicans. However, things have changed. Conduct of candidates or campaigns [Paul, Romney], more information on where candidates stand [Huckabee, Paul, Guiliani, Romney]. I’ve changed my mind. Fred is my number one pick. Some others are okay but not as good as Fred [Tancredo, Brownback, Hunter]. Some others it is the conduct of volunteers or freepers on their behalf [Hunter, Romney, Paul, Guiliani]. I would have been very supportive of Romney for many reasons but I can’t any longer.
Now it is down to fully support Fred OR really hold my nose, take a tranquilizer and vote for them anyway, or write someone in. Which is why I’m strongly supporting Fred. Everyone else is a wasted vote.

I was even going to donate to several candidates but not after I met some of their supporters.

Looks like you hijacked this thread.

Abortion as a benchmark is meaningless when deciding who to vote for next year. Giulianni has already stated his PERSONAL preference on abortion and that is he detests the practice. he has said that as long as it is the law of the land he will support it, which is his JOB.

The one thing everybody overlooks when discussing this is the federal funding of abortion. While Roe will be decided only by the Supreme Court, the President has a lot to do with federal funding, which is the worst part of the whole abortion issue. Some say that abortions will still happen even if they're illegal. I'm sure they're correct in that, as rape and murder are illegal as well, and they still happen. But we don't fund rape and murder with federal tax money, and neither should we ask those who consider abortion murder to pay for it. Ruity has come out in favor of federal funding in the past, so to say the issue is irrelevant to the Presidential race is incorrect.

Looks like Mitt’s smear campaign isn’t working out according to plan?

In a few more weeks he will be behind Huckabee.

We’re at war right now. We have troops in the field who’s very lives depend upon this election. Do they deserve someone like Hillary Clinton as their Commander In Chief? The 4,000 who have died would have died for nothing. Because as sure as the sun rises, a Democrat president will cut and run from Iraq. We’ll see a repeat of Vietnam in 1975. And the GOP voters who stayed home in 2008 will have just as much blood on their hands as the stuanchest anti-war candidate.

We honor Ronald Reagan as a great president because of what he did to end the Cold War. Yet a check on his record against illegal immigration and abortion is spotty. He signed a bill in 1986 that gave amnesty to illegals. And while he was a staunch pro-life supporter, his SCOTUS appointee Sandra Day O’ Conner was no friend of the movement.

Looks like Rudy is sinking a lot faster than I thought he would.

You may want to wait until Thompson makes an appearance in a debate.

Presidents do not make law

No, but they DO get to choose whether to sign laws into existence, or to veto them. They also get to choose judges who will then be on the bench for life, and who (rightly or wrongly) exercise a great deal of power in determining which laws are "constitutional". To say that a potential presidential candidate's prior record on an issue like abortion is irrelevant is simply silly.

That is very possibly the stupidest statement I have ever read on FR.

Even a few of my fellow workers who lean “dem/independant” are talking about ‘liking Fred’ more than any of the other candidates out there regardless of Party.
