Rasmussen(9/12/2007) Thompson 28% Giuliana 20%...

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll Wednesday, September 12, 2007

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that Fred Thompson on top once again in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination, Thompson is now the top choice for 28% of Likely Republican Primary Voters matching his highest level of support recorded to date. The question at the moment is how long the bounce from his official entry into the race will last. Rudy Giuliani, who has been the frontrunner for most of the year, is eight points behind Thompson with support from 20%. That figure reflects the lowest level of support recorded all year for the New Yorker. Data released yesterday shows that Republicans consider Giuliani the most electable candidate from their party.

Arizona Senator John McCain earns 12% of the vote and has moved a point ahead of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney at 11%. While the one-point difference is statistically insignificant, this is the first time in months that McCain has moved ahead of Romney by any margin. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee remains atop the second tier at 6% (see recent daily numbers).

There is little change in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. New York Senator Hillary Clinton attracts 42% of the vote from Likely Democratic Primary Voters. Barack Obama is the top choice for 22% while John Edwards attracts 18% (see recent daily numbers). New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is a distant fourth at 3%

I’m on the Duncan Hunter cu-de-sac. But I’ll vote for Fred if he wins the Primary...

"I wonder, can you Thompson supporters say the same? Will you vote for whomever is nominated and stand behind them..."

No. Conservative or no vote!

Thompson doesn’t happen to be my number one pick, so I don’t fall into the Fred camp. But since Rudy and Hillary are cut from the same cloth, I can say without a doubt, if Rudy gets the nod I will be writing in a candidate for president.

You’re dodging. Thompson has yet to even be in a debate. Maybe he will be the nominee. If so I will vote for him. All you have now is wishful thinking on your part.

First let me say that I am one of those who will support just about anyone who is on the GOP ticket, be it Rudy, Mitt or Fred.

But my question is this. Can Fred win the General Election in spite of his Conservative credentials. The thing about Rudy is that he appeals to a lot of the so-called Independents whose votes will be needed on election day.

So will enough of these Independents vote for Fred?

Thompson has yet to even be in a debate.

He doesn't need to be. Where has it gotten all of the other candidates? A debate is the worst place to try and express your views and positions. All of Fred's positions have been published, video-taped, or made clear in interviews. Screw ALL of the debates! They're worthless.

Abortion as a benchmark is meaningless when deciding who to vote for next year. Giulianni has already stated his PERSONAL preference on abortion and that is he detests the practice. he has said that as long as it is the law of the land he will support it, which is his JOB.

Presidents do not make law and his strongest suit is is ability to defend America, something he has the hands on capability to do as CIC. He (and Thompson, I’m sure) are the right men FOR THIS TIME. This is what should be considered when the time comes to pull the lever. Making the wrong decision such as choosing NOT to vote could very well mean you will NEVER again have the right to do so again.

The differences between Hillary and Rooty, are about the same as the differences between Hillary and Joe Lieberman.

Supporting the WOT is great. Backing the troops is patriotic. But there are other issues that makes one a patriot. I wouldn’t vote for Lieberman anymore than I’d vote Giuliani.

Rooty has no military expertise whatsoever. Besides, like Bill Clinton, Rooty was a draft dodger. Instead of fighting in Vietnam, Rooty sought a deferment to work as a law clerk for a liberal NYCity judge. And Rooty was granted that deferment.

I agree with you on all of those points except for one: I do not think rudi is strong on National Defense. Look at his record on border security - no way he is considered strong on national defense when his comments change daily regarding our borders. Kind of like his abortion policy - depends upon the audience.

The answer is yes. Hillery's negatives are so high that many independants won't vote for her regardless. I've heard many stories of Democrats even admitting they like Fred and would not vote for the beast.

At the moment, Fred is clearly the best candidate.

As for your question, my answer is definitely “No.”

I might conceivably vote for Romney if he were by some miracle to win the primaries. I would hold my nose while I did it, because he is a flip flopper and a smooth talker who cannot be trusted. But I would never vote for Rudy.

Sometimes if the best is not available you have to vote for the good. Unfortunately, Rudy does not represent second-best, he represents disaster. I could NEVER vote for an abortionist, a disrespecter of the 2nd Amendment, another amnesty freak who would give amnesty to a hundred million illegal immigrants.

Yes, Hillary is even worse, but if Rudy were elected he would destroy the party and set back the conservative and pro-life causes by decades.

I think we need to make that perfectly clear right now, before the primaries. Rudy is simply not acceptable, and if the party is stupid enough to nominate him, then the party will die. It’s better to make that perfectly clear now than to have to deal with it later.

I have only rarely voted for third party candidates over the course of my life. I certainly voted for Bob Dole in 1992, although I thought he was a lousy choice. But I would not vote for Giuliani. Never. And I am certain that 20 million Evangelicals would stay home if he were nominated, for similar reasons.

This is entirely a different matter from voting third party because the candidate isn’t quite pure enough, which I agree is stupid. This is putting the truth on the table about Giuliani. He would destroy the party and the conservative cause if he were nominated. It must not happen.

So far there has been five GOP debates. According to every national poll, those debates have had little, if any impact on the GOP primary campaign. The first tier candidates are still Rooty, Romney and McCain. Oh yeah, and Fred Thompson too. The fact that Fred hasn’t been in a debate hasn’t hurt his campaign efforts. Appearing on Jay Leno and being seen by over 6,000,000 viewers, was a smart move by Fred. The NH debate had an audience of 3,000,000. Case closed.

I wonder, can you Thompson supporters say the same? Will you vote for whomever is nominated and stand behind them or will you act like children, take your football and go home to pout?

No I will not act like a child. I will however stand by my convictions. I will vote (at this time) for either FDT, Hunter or possibly Huckabee.

Anyone else and I'm an under vote in the presidential race.
