First let me say that I am one of those who will support just about anyone who is on the GOP ticket, be it Rudy, Mitt or Fred.
But my question is this. Can Fred win the General Election in spite of his Conservative credentials. The thing about Rudy is that he appeals to a lot of the so-called Independents whose votes will be needed on election day.
So will enough of these Independents vote for Fred?
The answer is yes. Hillery's negatives are so high that many independants won't vote for her regardless. I've heard many stories of Democrats even admitting they like Fred and would not vote for the beast.
So will enough of these Independents vote for Fred?
They voted for Reagan, also much of the base would not support Rudi, will be be able to take all of the independents and a bunch of Dems too?
Enough to win, with a far better President as a result.
At the same time that Rudy may appeal to moderates and independents, he absolutely turns off the base of the party more than canceling out his appeal to moderates. All you have to do is read through the posts on this page to see the depth and width of total dislike for the policies, positions, and behavior of Rudy.
