General just cut off one loser Reporter and basically called him a liar. Said his statement was completely untrue and would not let the Reporter continue until he answered the false contention of the reporter..

Great! thanks for the report.

I’d like to see some ‘hard ass’ come out of him now and then.

At end talked about some positive political developments — informal oil revenue sharing among provinces, budgeting government by provinces, re-hiring of 5,000 experienced army soliders/leaders, processing of others, paying remainder retirement. Stuff you don’t hear about in the MSM.

Drinking Coffee  Just heard Petraeus mention he received this Kipling poem from someone in his
home town just prior to going up on the hill.  It explains a lot.
[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

--Rudyard Kipling

An early report from the Baltimore Sun Weblog about the press conference

Very Rumsfeld-esque.

Rummy would alway cut off and correct members of the Pentagon press corps when they made inaccurate statements as lead-ins to a question. Besides knocling them off guard, if not challenged, false statements are assumed as truth.

More officials should take the same tactic.

The fox link would not work for me. Sure wish I could view the whole news conference. Anyone know when it will be shown again or have a link to the video? Thanks so much!

Democrats have requested network air time following Bush's speech to lay out a response. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I. — a member of the Senate Armed Services committee and former Army Ranger — is expected to deliver the response

Well then, should we start denouncing Jack Reed, trashing his character, and calling him a liar now?

Maybe a full page ad in the NYT is in order.."Jack Reed or Jack Sh*t?" would be a good headline.

would not let the Reporter continue until he answered the false contention of the reporter..

The LTC was watching the House hearings the other day when one of the congressmen (I forget who) kept trying to interupt his answer. I was laughing about it and THE LTC said "hey, nobody has interrupeted him since he was a 1LT, he knows how to handle it"

I will, I’ve been looking for it. I think the Pentagon Channel should have it later. Or maybe the DOD...
