Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (AP) -- The sheriff of Broward County resigned Tuesday amid a corruption investigation, and a law enforcement official said a plea deal was in the works involving federal tax evasion and mail fraud charges.

Sheriff Ken Jenne made his resignation official in an e-mail to his employees and in a separate letter to Gov. Charlie Crist.

"I need to turn my attention to myself and my family," Jenne wrote in the e-mail.

Under the agreement, Jenne would plead guilty to three counts of tax evasion and one count of mail fraud, according to a senior federal law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the papers had not been filed Tuesday morning. Under federal sentencing guidelines, the sheriff could face at least a year in prison.

The plea deal came as Jenne faced a possible indictment on more serious money-laundering and other charges after a two-year corruption investigation into his outside business transactions.

Jenne's attorney, David Bogenschutz, did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment.

If this is the same Broward County sheriff, he is a big proponent of gun control. I can recall a few years ago, when the Broward County sheriff was in the lead of efforts to block the Fla. concealed carry law.

This is the guy that ticked off all LE when he began wearing FIVE stars on his uniform, even thought 4 stars is as high as they are supposed to go. He set up his buddies with 6 figure desk jobs and the crime around here has skyrocketed. We eclipsed our murder record for a given year a couple of months ago. I could go on and on about that guy...

Jenne was (is) a close pal of former-Congressman Larry Smith, D-Hollywood. Rep. Smith was also tried for corruption. There is a really clique down there; Mara Giulianti, Alcee Hastings, Susan Gunzburger, Larry Korda, et. al. who all need to be closely watched.

The sudden fall of Sheriff Ken Jenne will come as no surprise to GUN OWNERS who have seen his corruption and bald faced lies for years. He was caught in a lie on CNN (who provided aid to the deception in their story) by NRA chief Wayne LaPierre during the great "Assault Weapons" craze a few years ago. He was at the BSO range with a full auto M16 and it's semi auto little brother, the AR15. He deliberately had the shooter, a BSO deputy MISS when the M16 was fired at a concrete block. When the AR15 was fired at the block it was struck and fragmented, thus serving to "show" the world the AR15 to be even MORE LETHAL than the battle rifle issued to our military! I think the Deputy came forward to explain the situation and it was plain on the video that by the dirt kicking up while the M16 was firing, the block was being missed. Outed in a LIE on national tv and neither Jenne nor CNN was at all repentant. They'd been caught. But the media just covered the incident up and continued to spew lies about guns and the folks who own them. Well....sweet irony. There is such a thing as poetic justice. Ken Jenne will now get to sit in the "NO GUNS" boat he wanted us to ride. Felons have no right to gun ownership. Well for now. But the liberals working on that, too. As long as they get to vote, then everything else is fine.
