A few of em tried, the public rejected them...

Tommy Thompson was a great Governor for WI before being tapped for National Security Advisor (or whatever his title was)... he did a great job there....

The public yawned... and he’s gone.

That's a great pic - and not at all "uncomplimentary" of the man.

Let's see how he does in the early primaries - I think that will either surprise a lot of folks in this forum, dismay them - or both.

I'm inclined to support the Republican candidate in 2008. My overriding ideology is "win". Sorry if that offends some here, those who would choose to go down on "the ship of principles". Losing in '08 simply is not an option that is acceptable to me.

I think the same analogy could be drawn regarding the war with Islam (don't want to hijack the thread, but it's worth saying): win, at all costs. I'm willing to accept those "costs" in my intellect and conscience (and also to live with the consequences). We _know_ what the West's loss to Islam will result in. There is no choice other than to "win".

- John

I think when a real, honest primary finally occurs, many are going to be shocked by the results.

Especially Rudy Guiliani. And he won’t be happy about it.

I do not trust this guy and doubt I ever will. Just something about him that doesn’t seem to be Presidential and not the type of leader this country needs right now.

Bush is unpopular with the Repub base due to his liberal/Dem policies and stands.

So, Rudy, who is even more Liberal, is going to be more palatable?

Sounds a lot more of “out of the frying pan, into the fire”.

And a liberal like Rudy who runs right to get elected, won’t then return to the left?

Think Bush would have gotten elected or even re-elected if he had campaigned on his illegal amnesty or his “lets merge the USA with Mexico and Canada” desires?

“A Mexican truck in every town” or other catchy slogan?

Nope, Bush would have lost the election running on Liberal planks as he now likes.

Rudy will most likely go back to being a RINO.

Rudy will finish the job of destroying the Repub Party that Bush has been working so hard at.

For the first time in my life, our family will not vote Repub if its Rudy the RINO.

I have to agree with you EGD. Rudy = Schwarzenegger.

Three things are assured:

1. If he wins the nomination, we will have a liberal president.

2. If he wins the presidency, it will be the decisive stake in the heart of the GOP.

3. I will NEVER vote for Rudy—ever.

Do his views on issues clash with the hard right? Yep, on aome issues they do...

"Hard right"?????

The guy does not support 80% of the Republican platform!

Your kind of "anything to win" logic is what is destroying conservatism.

Vote for Schwarzenegger Giuliani. He can win!

But if you don’t support Rudy, people will call you names and blame you for everything bad for the next 20 years. They’ll also call you a Democrat supporter with ridiculously stupid mantras like “A non-vote for Guliani is a vote for Clinton”. And they’ll shoot a kitten.

Please. Think about the kittens.

Some of the strongest, most religious Conservatives I know support Rudy

I know a fair amount of religious conservatives, most of them Catholic. I can't think of a single one of them who is not strongly against Rudy. I don't know who they're polling, but I expect the "religious conservative" title is self authenticated.

And his cross dressing was less than impressive too.

LOL. Been there. Done that!

California freepers who didn't support Arnold have been called every name in the book by many of the same liberal trolls that support Giuliani. When Arnold appointed leftists to high posts (including advisors like Warren Buffett, Robert F. Kennedy, jr. and Leon Panetta), we were told it was "strategery." When he promoted his Global Warming b.s., we were told Republicans should be more concerned about the environment. When he increased spending by record amounts, we were told to be quiet and it was "better than Bustamante". When he promoted and signed a 25 million-acre land grab (that Gray Davis vetoed), we were hushed. When he increased fees and promoted big borrowing schemes, we were told it was the best we could do and at least "he didn't raise taxes". When he passed numerous laws on behalf of gays, making domestic partnerships equal to marriage, we were told the actions were "mere crumbs" and "not that important." etc. etc. etc. (the list is much longer).

An enemy within can do far more damage than keeping them right in front of you and opposing them every step of the way. The Dems may shoot kittens but Trojan Horse Republicans will kill them in their sleep (and undermine the conservative agenda by stabbing you in the back).

[Bush is unpopular with the Repub base due to his liberal/Dem policies and stands.]

It’s dialectic politics. The left wing and the right wing "oppose" each other and the sheeple get herded right up the middle.

This is the MSM’s ongoing effort to make Americans believe that Rudy is the Republican leader. The drums will continue to beat until he’s defeated in the primaries. Remember in 1984, when the MSM predicted confidently right up to the closing of the voting booths that Mondale was going to win?

Yep, the days of conservatives holding their noses, "half a loaf," or "RINO is better than a liberal" are over.

Rudy's nominated = 3rd party conservative candidate

RUDY WINNING OVER 'RIGHT' PEOPLE

Two people.

Josiah Schmidt, 21, a college senior from Ohio (who runs a Rudy blog and had formerly run a Condi Blog), and Greg Alterton, 55, a Californian evangelical (that nobody has ever heard of before) who blogs for Schmidt's web site.

They find two supposed Christian evangelicals (with no Conservative Christian credentials)and conclude that since they are for Rudy, that means that Rudy is going to capture the hearts of the whole evangelical right and the pro-life movement.

In your dreams Mr. Campanile.

Poorly written, poorly researched article.

“Some of the strongest, most religious Conservatives I know support Rudy”

I’m not disagreeing with you here, but I sure am glad I don’t know these people.

I have an aunt and uncle who are Christians, but also Democrats. I’ve tried to talk to them but it doesn’t work. They love Ted Kennedy. I don’t get it. I wish I didn’t know this particular aunt and uncle.
