National Preparedness Month, 2007
A Proclamation by the President of the United States

White House News

National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of emergency preparedness and to encourage all Americans to better prepare their homes and communities for emergencies.

Protecting America’s homeland and citizens is the shared responsibility of the entire Nation. Individuals can prepare themselves and their families for emergencies by taking simple steps such as organizing an emergency supply kit, making a personal preparedness plan, becoming informed about different threats, and getting involved in preparing their community. These activities create a culture of preparedness and can help save lives.

My Administration continues to improve our Nation’s ability to prepare for emergencies. The Department of Homeland Security is working with other Federal, State, and local government organizations, as well as the private sector, to prevent, respond to, and recover from all types of emergencies. Together, Americans can significantly enhance the level of national preparedness to further safeguard our communities and secure our homeland.

This month is also an opportunity to pay tribute to America’s first responders who put themselves at risk for the safety of their fellow citizens. These brave police officers, firefighters, and emergency service personnel exemplify the compassion and commitment that help strengthen our country. We will be forever grateful for their service and sacrifice.

During National Preparedness Month, I encourage all Americans to get involved in their community’s preparedness efforts. Citizens may visit ready.gov and citizencorps.gov to learn more about emergency preparedness and ways to take action.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 2007 as National Preparedness Month. I call upon the people of the United States to recognize the importance of preparing for potential emergencies and to observe this month by participating in appropriate events, activities, and preparedness programs.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this thirtieth day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-second.

GEORGE W. BUSH

(Katie) may not actually have been sent (to Iraq) for ratings (I don't think she will get any). She may have been sent there specifically to advance a message.

Spot on, IMO, Bahbah.

I'm betting she's searching for a Walter Cronkite "Tet Offensive" type moment so that she can declare the war officially lost.  Although the press is refusing to report it many in the intelligence community and military are warning of a spike in IEDs and terrorist attacks just before or in the immediate aftermath of Petraeus' testimony in just over a week.

I wonder if her timing was inspired by some "anonymous communication" from someone with direct knowledge of Al Qaeda's plans?  Maybe a communication which might be subject to the dreaded "domestic surveillance" program?

Seriously, what would be the impact if our intelligence services actually intercepted a damning communication between Al Qaeda and a prominent journalist, politician or celebrity?  I'd love to see Katie Couric, Leaky Leahy or even George Soros being "frog marched" off to Levinworth.  Prosecution would probably be made impossible by our current politically poisoned atmosphere, but releasing such a taped conversation or intercepted message could have a huge impact.

My FRiend, I hope we’ll not defend Craig on this at all. As a father of a young son I must cringe with disgust just thinking about what some of these perverts do in men’s rooms. The fact that my son and I could encounter such behavior boils my blood. These types of homos are perverts. That they must DO IT in public just confirms it for me. WHAT IS WRONG WTH GETTING A ROOM????

Dang nabit! I’m an American. I don’t want to be unfair or discriminating to anyone, but I shouldn’t have to have it thrown in my face, either. Keep it private and in the bedroom and you’ll never hear a peep out of me. But if you insist on making your perversion public and a political position then, yes, you bet, I’ll oppose you.

I believe Craig is a pervert. I’m glad he’s gone. As Hillary says, it’s for the children!

Well, Wallace had the two top senators on the judiciary committee and didn’t mention Hsu once. I guess the story will be swept under the rug. I do believe that the DOJ has announced they are investigating Hsu, but it doesn’t seem to make the news. Perhaps later, but more probably, never. Afterall Hsu is a democrat so the media will spike the story and when/if it does come up it will be “old news”.

To the Washington elites, since CFR was passed there is no such thing as illegal contributions, no matter where the funds originate. And besides, if problems do arise, they simply give the money to charity and all is forgiven. That's the template, and why the story will not be aired.

Thi is a GRAVE problem, because more and more, these funds are coming from offshore sources (foriegn governments and NGO's) in an attempt to influence US policy (at the least) or hijack the government (at most).

They are afraid of getting caught.

I have a darker tin-foil conspiracy thought. Maybe the suits at CBS are hoping that Katie doesn’t make it back. That would make for a ratings boost and solve a payroll problem at the same time.

MTP is actually focusing on the fact that Thompson wore Gucci loafers to the Iowa state fair.

That's what the Left does. Attack. Attack. Attack. Attack. Attack. Repeat the big lie over and over. Class warfare. Death of a thousad cuts.

Tarred and feathered by the DBM and ronnie earle that little despicable from the San Fran Austin in Travis Co.

I really wish the Hammer would come here and literally beat that little SOB with a 2 X 6.

I often think Spectator says a lot of stuff just to get DBM attention! Too bad he can’t be replaced.

The good Conservatives in Pennsylvania tried. Bush and the establishment Republicans saved his sorry ass.
