France's President Nicolas Sarkozy says he wants to go "much further in loosening up the 35-hour" working week.
Mr Sarkozy also said he wanted to tighten up competition between firms to make consumer prices fall.
In a speech to the employers' organisation Medaf, he said he was not planning to sit around waiting for international growth to improve.

- Wake up France, it’s time to go to work!
Oh great. First the guy says they have to assume a greater role in military defense, then he says Frenchies have to get back to work, then he says he’d consider an attack on a nuclear Iran. Am I going to have to stop hating France for a few years? Inconceivable!
LOL A new France...
Have you ever seen a frenchman work? Its kind of like how the fight. Whether its 35 hours or 40, the result will be the same.
Don’t the French get at least six weeks vacation as well?
are they back from their summer long vacations yet?
Tell me. I can’t believe France actually elected someone with brains. And gonads. How did this happen again?
Truly, this has become a strange and unfamiliar world... no, wait, the democrats are still puerile scoundrels. Whew!
Its easier to count the hours they do work then the ones they don’t. Is there a lazier society??
Pray for W and Our Troops
Not nice at all, but I did laugh heartily.
You know what I don’t think so NOT YET is their vacation go all way to September
5 weeks + 2 weeks of RTT (Reduction du Temps de Travail, in English : Reduction of Working Time) according to the contract)

Can we elect this guy our President?
“Tell me. I cant believe France actually elected someone with brains. And gonads. How did this happen again?”
- Some general on Swedish TV (I’m Swedish) recently said that the best way of breaking down the fighting spirit of a country’s population is to let them experience what war really is.
Guess the same goes for Socialism, even though the process of changing a nations mind in this area usually takes much longer time..
“Can we elect this guy our President?”
- No, but Liberals and Socialists in The US could start asking themselves why so many Europeans are starting to embrace Conservative ideals.
As I understand it, if you own a company and know that whoever you hire (no matter what level or seniority, or lack thereof) is there to stay make you reluctant to take some risk and expand the company. If you have a poor quarter/year etc or there's an economic downturn, forget laying off folks to save the company (forget the longterm result of offering those jobs back and more once things improve). The incentive is to stagnate.
I heard that. I am liking this guy more and more each day. If he is reelected I will have to upgrade France from repugnant to abhorrent on my loathe-o-meter.
