We've received many requests from freepers requesting that other freepers not post to them. There are several problems with this.
1. It's impossible for us to enforce.
2. We don't have the time to enforce these requests.
3. We don't have the software to keep track of these requests.
4. Thick skin helps.
5. Ignore the poster, if you don't reply, they won't reply.
Free Republic does not need a bozo filter, bozo filters are for wimps.
Final note: Trolls, troublemakers, disruptors, forum pests, malcontents, RINOs, liberals, stalkers, et al, would continue posting to (harassing) someone after being asked to stop. Conservative FReepers would not.
No ‘fuse lighting’ here at FR. The mods/admins do their job when called upon....unlike another website I used to frequent.
It was a joke.
Enforcing a "Do not post to me" request is understandable if [big IF] the complainant is being harassed by personal attacks.
Enforcing a "Do not post to or about me" request is in most cases giving protection to the controversial views of the complainant.
So I could be posted to/FR mailed to, but I wasn't supposed to be allowed to return the posts etc...One problem, didn't last long, no problem."
I know what you mean, it just happened to me recently.
Another tactic is to claim someone you asked not to post to you claims you responded to them.
When someone asks me not to post to them, I don 't. When the occasion should be the reverse, I expect the same courtesy. It has nothing to do with "thick skin", but with honesty and fairness.
And yes, I do think civility, honesty, fairness and decency should be goals on a conservative forum. And when it it obvious posters are attempting to be otherwise, or are attempting to harass another poster, they should be warned about it.
While to some degree I can understand some of the points of this thread, I also see it as a cop out. There are instances when the dynamics of such situations are obvious and can be easily rectified.
LOL. Speaking of funnies, I must share these two, on the topic of other sites. I saw a thread get locked (censored) on another forum (lol). That in itself isn’t really funny at all, but add to that...it was a thread dealing with a thread here at FR. Now that was funny. It was receiving so much attention it got locked.
Ok, story #2...I’m looking at another ‘other site’ and see where a former long-time freeper was in trouble over nothing. Again, that’s not the funny part, what was funny was that the user was ‘demoted’ in rank (lolololol) I almost spit my coffee on my screen it was too funny.
I like it here just fine :)
No disputing what you wrote.
My experience was with a admin/mod on another website that ignored multiple requests to put an end to a particular practice, then eight months latter blaming me for responding ‘in kind’.
Anyway, its not an issue here at FR. And I’ve since realized it was much more about my influence, and being against kooks like Ron Paul or windbags like Tancredo than it was anything else (the site owner is a huge Paulistinian).
The mods always handle personal attacks. Always. I wish I had a dollar for everytime I’ve seen “Don’t make it personal” or “Knock it off”. Most of the time “do not post to me” is little more than a crybaby tactic put into play when someone won’t agree with them or when that person is making a point. It’s much like the MSM behaves when a person is making a point & they’re “out of time”. It shuts the other person down & gives the whining one the last word. It’s not that hard to just ignore someone. That’s what the scroll button is for. And maturity is a plus too.
Please do not post Bozo to me. (He scares me!)
Hey, I’m with you on this issue. Call it FReeponomics. Someone is trying to sell their ideas, some are buying, others aren’t. The strong survive, the weak and pointless move on. The Admin Moderators aren’t here to take names.. If anyone has a problem with someone, keep your own damned list. Let the Moderators do the job they are intended to do. (WTH DO they do, anyway;)
Admin Lecture series ping.
Was that a random act of pinging?
I thought Slings had the Not-a-Ping-list.
I’m so confused.
You left out my tagline.
You’re singling me out, aren’t you? I’ll report you to the mods! I’ll get dontposttome to post to you. If I get really mad, I’ll resurrect nopardons and MiaT and tell them you’re really a rudybot who just needs a little coaxing.
old tagline:
We should withdraw from Iraq via Tehran. And Duncan Hunter is just the man to get that job done.
Hey, that could be a new way to bump a thread.
It’s better than “It’s Bush’s fault.”
“I just kept posting to others I posted to until I was privately asked not to post to them either by the same poster! ... There’s a lot of heat in this “kitchen” at times, but there’s also a door...”
***Good post. I needed a place to change my tagline back.
And while there is this open discrepancy about not-a-ping lists, I think this one is a start.

Any "issues" we should know about there, muawiyah?
“the user was demoted in rank (lolololol)”
That is funny!
Adding threadkiller, don’t post to me, to the not-a-ping list for this thread
