What Makes a FReeper a FReeper?

I often wondered what exactly makes a FReeper a FReeper? Is it the simple act of reading articles on FR? Do you have to post articles or replies? To call yourself a FReeper do you need to engage in effective activism like writing letters to politicians, getting out in the street to carry signs, or, is being a FReeper an attitude. If so, what attitude is that?

I know what it means to me but I’d never attempt to define any set requirement for anyone else. Every FReeper knows who they are and it doesn’t matter if anyone else knows.

Good grief ... that broad in the front of your feminist protest picture is holding a sign that says:

“College $80,000; Law School $129,000; Busting up the old boys club ...” blah, blah, blah.

That’s the education $209,000.00 buys these days!?!? (not including interest ... which, if re-paid over 30 years at 7%, will double the debt, at least. So we’ll say $550,000.00, estimating conservatively).

She’d better be smarter than she looks holding that goofy sign ... otherwise she’ll never make enough money to justify her education.

Maybe she’ll marry a guy with money - though, if she’s dragging that kind of debt, she’d better iron his damn shirt (and put out, a LOT). May God have mercy on his soul.

That wasn’t what I was thinking. My thoughts were more that a FReeper wouldn’t have to call themselves one, but if they are they likely know it.

A FReeper is someone to whom this is more than just a news forum — someone who considers it a community. FReepers come in various shades, such as conservatives, neo-cons, libertarians, isolationists, free-traders, and even tin-foil-wearing conspiracy theorists. True FReepers can disagree over the appropriate choice for primaries, but will rally to defeat the liberal democrats in the general election. At the same time, true FReepers understand why so many FReepers are so adamately opposed to Rudy and McCain that they cannot imagine any scenario where they could enthusiastically support either one. The few long-time liberal posters that somehow survive around here are not truly FReepers, because they do not participate out of a sense of community but rather to ruffle feathers and argue.
