Mitt's a bit miffed [Mormon Massacre movie]
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | August 16, 2007 | BILL ZWECKER

Posted on 08/16/2007 11:33:00 AM PDT by Plutarch

Sources inside the Mitt Romney camp report the former Massachusetts governor's presidential campaign staff is none too happy about the timing of the release of ''September Dawn,'' a film about a mid-19th century massacre by Mormons -- considered to be the first recorded act of religious terrorism on U.S. soil. ''Given all the current press attention to Mitt's being a Mormon -- much of it having a negative slant -- this only adds fuel to the fire,'' a Romney campaign insider told this column Wednesday...

Coming on the heels of Romney's first win in the Iowa GOP straw poll earlier this week, ''September Dawn'' will open in Chicago and in approximately 800 to 1,000 theaters nationwide on Aug. 24. Starring Jon Voight, Terence Stamp, Lolita Davidovich and Dean Cain, the movie features Voight as a zealous Mormon bishop and Stamp as Brigham Young. It focuses on the 1857 massacre by Mormons of 120 men, women and children traveling through Utah in a wagon train from Arkansas to California.

The Romney camp is unhappy that the publicity for ''September Dawn'' specifically points out that the film's release coincides with ''a time when issues of Mormonism are in heightened areas of the news.'' That statement alone ''obviously is directed at our campaign,'' said my source, who requested anonymity...

Would Mitt like us to revise history, as the Clintons and Giulianis have done in the past?

Hollyweird is not good at covering up their attacks on Conservatives, Republicans and the Religious.

Will we see bombings of movie theaters?

No?

Now what religion would respond with violence over a movie like this?

I’ll watch this movie as soon as Hollywood makes one depicting muslims terrorists as the bad guys.

Wait until Micheal Moore does his hit piece on Rudy. - and he will.

I think that I just put it in writing first.

If you think this movie is accurate you need to do some more research. The truth is bad enough but this work attempts to place the blame on people who neither , ordered, participated, nor covered up.

They probably started filming LONG before Mitt even declared. What are they supposed to do, let all the money they invested in making sit on the sidelines not returning anything?

It is kind of ironic that Hollywierd will look 150 years into the past of a religion to find a massacre about which to make a movie but they do not look a recent history.

Since 9/11/2001 there have been over NINE THOUSAND terrorists attacks around the world by ISLAMIC Terrorists.

NINE THOUSAND!!

No, but I think Mitt would like it if Hollywood didn’t make a movie about this incident. There are many historic events about which movies have never been made. So a question is why they decided to make a movie about an incident with Mormons as the “bad guys”?

This is no different than making a movie about Jim Jones. i.e the inevitable results of cults.

They’ve made movies with muslim bad guys. True Lies was one. I can’t recall the name of it but there was one with Kurt Russell and Stephen Segal that has muslim baddies.

I don’t care if it is an accurate movie or not. Mitt should just laugh it off rather than whine about it. The movie was written and planned long before he was a candidate.

If anyone may be aggravated by the film, it could be former 49’s QB Steve Young. He is a direct decendent of Brigham Young.

Two points come to mind;

1. The first act of ‘religious terrorism’? Somebody tell those claiming this about the Salem Witch Hunts.

2. If Romney has a complaint about ‘the timing’ he should tell it to the RNC and DNC honcho’s that thought having the 2008 Presidential campaign begin so early about it.

I’d say the producers made the decision about this movie long before anyone heard of Romney and the 2008 election cycle. It takes a few years to get a project like this off the ground.

Riveting movie, I own the DVD. Your gut aches throughout, and afterward.

You are correct that is stupid. But I also think you share my skepticism about the anonymous source being part of the official campaign.

What a stretch of rationalization. Some backwoods inbreeds going nuts makes all of isSlimes murderous massacres OK. Either that or the ENEMEDIA is runnin skeered of Mitt!!!
