Lone Wolf Dares Defy GOP Pack In Budget Vote (George Slumberin' Skelton RINO Panegyric Alert)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 08/09/2007 | George "Slumberin" Skelton

While his Senate Republican colleagues have cowered under the shadow of right-wing ideology, he has had the courage to move forward on a centrist course of compromise.

Sen. Abel Maldonado (R-Santa Maria), 39, is the kind of lawmaker ordinary people say they want representing them: Not too politically partisan. Not afraid to exercise independence. More loyal to his constituents than his party caucus.

Senate Republicans either don't know when to declare victory because they're so used to losing. Or they're just hankering to fight -- to prove their relevance and take a shot at the governor who last year virtually ignored them and dealt solely with ruling Democrats.

It's both, I suspect.

Make no mistake: The Assembly-passed budget is a Republican budget. It hits society's most vulnerable. It cuts funds for inner-city transit. It reduces the budget deficit to $700 million -- half of what Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger had proposed in May -- and the governor has promised to whittle that down to zero with line-item vetoes. The budget sets aside a record $3.6-billion reserve. And there's no tax increase.

That's basically what Republicans have demanded for months. They've won. But in the Senate, Maldonado is the only one trying to wave the flag -- before Democrats turn around and run them over.

George "Slumberin" Skelton, the Sacramento Los Angeles Times Bureau Chief, found time to write a gushing panegyric on a turncoat RINO named Abdel Maldonado and to vent his hatred of conservative Republicans. In the MSM's world, conservatives deserve to be run over by the Left. That's Skelton's definition of post-partisanship: a Republican In Name Only who surrenders to the Democrats' demand for deficit spending and Big Government up the wazoo.

Only NINE Republicans voted for the Assembly budget. The rest voted AGAINST it. I guess that's the MSM's definition of a "Republican" budget - a budget filled with pork and phony accounting gimmicks and a huge deficit. For trying to fix it and bring honesty to the budget process, Senate Republicans are characterized as being "in the grip of a right wing ideology." No bias there.

Another example of how wrong those who bash the Republican Party really are; there is no other loyal alternative to a Socialist Democracy.

LOL! That's a good one!

"Liberalism," as Rush puts it, "is a gutless choice." Why? Liberalism is a gutless choice because the term "liberal," or the term "progressive" for that matter, is awarded by journalists to politicians and intellectuals who have no principle superior to their desire to go along and get along with journalists.

"Liberals" and "objective journalists" are both defined by their promotion of criticism above performance, in direct contradiction of

Given the authority, would you be willing to purge these 9 from the CA GOP?

Purge ?

Do you mean as in how we should purge people from FreeRepublic that are not loyal in defending our Republic because they do not support the only real alternative to the the socialist Democrats ? I see your point.

Defeat them in honest primaries and replace them with loyal Republicans.
