Indeed. People thought we should nominate Ford over Reagan and, four years later, G.H.W. Bush over Reagan. Luckily the conservative choice was picked the second-time around and history has shown that the be the proper choice. :-)

” Republicans want a candidate they can feel good about.”

Absolutely! Energize the base, and they all come out on Election Day. Remember the 2006 election.

A lot of people say that we should nominate a RINO like Guilliani to beat Clinton, but I say that our best chance is to nominate a true conservative. Republicans want a candidate they can feel good about.

I totally agree with you. Problem is this nation is distinguished into three voting categories. Left, Center and the Right. Left and Center have more in common with each other than any commonality with the 'right'. By Right I am speaking of actual 'conservatives' those who know that to be fiscally conservative requires one to be socially conservative. Left and Center do not really give a rats rear end about social responsibility thus they will always be at the public trough demanding somebody else pay for the socializing. Now over the years to enlarge that 'Republican tent' all manner of social acceptance has crept in and it got labeled 'compassion' and bigger and bigger taxpayer spending. I am not sure there is the mood in this nation to literally change that direction.

Finally Calp, its beginnig to happen for Duncan. Thompson has not even announced and is unlikely to at this point.Thompson is waiting for a phone call from the RNC, and a secret visit from the RNC heavywights to discuss the RNC annointing him as their favored son. He will wait in vain, as the RNC back room boys will go for either Giulliani or Romney.

Duncan can still beat the RNC's annointee, if we get out and push for him, and if we Freepers begin sending in donations. Duncan is not "progressive" enough for the RINO intoxicated RNC. They will be making a LARGE error by not annointing Duncan Hunter, which would unite the Republican party's conservative base, giving the Republican party its best chance at victory. Without our conservative base, we will have a democrat as our next president, regardless whether a RINO runs to attract moderates. In this election in 2008, there WILL BE VERY FEW UNCOMMITTED MODERATES up for grabs. We will have a polarized electorate.

Go DUNCAN go!

Hunter is the first candidate I’ve ever really felt good about. I suspect that people felt the same way about Reagan in his day.

It would be so wonderful to once again have a President that we can respect.

A Thompson-Hunter ticket would be fine by me. Thompson at the top of the ticket would be more electable than with Hunter at the top.

Duncan Hunter is going to have a strong surge over the next 60 to 70 days. This is part of it.

“A Thompson-Hunter ticket would be fine by me.”

I am hoping for a Thompson-Pence (Congressman Mike Pence) ticket, as I want a ticket with both candidates solidly committed to rolling back the role of the federal government. Eight years of Thompson, followed by eight years of Pence would do wonders in getting the ballooning expansion of the federal government under control.
