President Bush and Vice President Cheney met this morning with economic advisors at the Treasury Department in Washington. The president delivered a statement afterwards, taking time to remember the trapped miners in Utah.
"This morning I spoke with Governor Huntsman of Utah. He gave me an update on the efforts to rescue the trapped miners. I told him our nation's thoughts and prayers are with the miners and their families, and that the federal government will help in any way we can. (Transcript)
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with Chile's Foreign Relations Minister Alejandro Foxley Rioseco today at the State Department.
And Secretary of Defense Robert Gates met with Japanese Defense Minister Yuriko Koike at the Pentagon.
Also, it was announced today that French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife will meet with President and Mrs. Bush this Saturday at the family home in Kennebunkport, Maine. This will be Sarkozys first visit to the United States as president. (Transcript)

I am not a fan of Barry Bonds
Me neither. I can't stand him. But that was easily the best photo of the day :)
God bless our President! Thank you, silent_jonny. :)
Hi, Dolly :)
Thanks for stopping by. I got your shout by the way ;)
The President looks even more GQesque than usual today — the first photo is AWESOME!
NOTE: Not only is the President going to host the French PM this weekend, he’s also going to attend a family wedding . . . I’m hoping for MANY GQ photos — along with the requisite boating/fishing photos of course!!
BTW: The press managed to get a photo of a shirtless French PM, do you think they could manage to get one of a shirtless GWB?!

ANNUAL PHYSICAL SHOWS BUSH IN “SUPERIOR” HEALTH
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush remains in “superior” health for a man his age, the White House said on Wednesday, citing results of his annual physical exam.
[President Bush had a brush with Lyme disease: What’s this all about? Doesn’t Tony know that we need to be informed of these things so that we can pray for our dear president?!]

WINNING NUMBERS
By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY
Leadership: President Bush’s poll ratings have inched up, dozens of Democrats feared defying him on a terrorist surveillance bill, and the public sees improvement in Iraq. Clearly, Bush isn’t as embattled as some think.
Gallup shows the president’s approval rating improving from a low of 29% last month to a still far-from-celebratory 34%. (Yet it’s well above Congress’ 27% Gallup number or 14%, according to Zogby.)
Granted the upturn’s modest, but Gallup’s latest numbers also show that those who believe the new surge strategy is “making the situation better” rose from 22% in July to 31% in August. Those saying it’s “not making much difference” fell from 51% to 41%.
There’s no way to deprive the commander-in-chief of a lion’s share of the credit for Iraq’s improvement: He stubbornly refused to take official Washington’s advice to start bringing the troops home and organize unconditional chin-wags with Islamofascist heads of state in the Middle East, as recommended in the Baker-Hamilton report.
. . . When think tanks long associated with the Democratic Party admit “we might just win” in Iraq, and when Democrats fear a Republican president with a 34% approval rating more than their own leaders, it tells you the White House has much more political capital than the Washington pundits would have us believe.
It’s easy to see why: This president has always shown honesty and determination regarding the enemies facing Western Civilization.

Heh, cool!
BTW, who in the Bush family is getting married?
The following is all I know:
The president arrives in Kennebunkport on Thursday, staying through the weekend for a wedding. The Bushes are having Sarkozy and his wife, Cecilia, to a private lunch on Saturday, presidential spokesman Tony Snow said. Laura Bush extended the invitation during meetings of world leaders in Germany in June, Snow said.
