Robinson proposes marriage of Church and State?
Gay Episcopal bishop endorses Obama
Washington DC, Aug 3, 2007 / 10:31 am (CNA).- Bishop Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, the nation's first openly gay Episcopal bishop, has given his endorsement to presidential hopeful Barack Obama, citing the Illinois Democrat's experience with racism and discrimination.
Obama's campaign put out a news release announcing Robinsons support. It identified Robinson as "a civil rights leader and a leading voice in the faith community."
The bishop says he hopes to persuade Obama to embrace same-sex marriage. Obama supports civil unions and rights for gay couples, but stops short of supporting gay marriage.
The Washington Post reported that three hours after the announcement, Welton Gaddy, president of the Interfaith Alliance, said it was "just the latest example of candidates misusing religious leaders for political gain."
Gaddy said he was sending a letter to all the presidential candidates asking them not to make endorsements that appear to be speaking on behalf of their house of worship or denomination.
"In recent presidential campaigns little concern has been in evidence about the negative consequences that certain political strategies bring about for houses of worship," Gaddy's letter reads.
Bishop Gene Robinson is a lot like Admiral Teddy Kennedy. All I have to do is find out what they are in favor of, and I know I am safe to be against it. I don’t even have to know what the issue is. It works for any subject, belief, opinion, etc.
Either they (a) have an understated sense of humor, or (b) are trying to tell us that Schadenfreude is not a sin.
Ping.
Is that a proposal?
Yeah, that'll help. Considering Obama doesn't need to place further emphasis on his geekiness, it might be smart if he'd ask Robinson's office what they'd demand in return for rescinding their endorsement.
I really love it when left-wing candidates embrace far left politics! It’s all good for us!
And vice-versa!
Sounds like an ideal match for Obama. I hope he flaunts his endorsement as much as he does his life "as a gay man". Should do wonders for Obama in a general election.
The headline almost sounds like a tabloid.
Hugs all around Obama. We’ll be waiting for the pics.
To bad he didn’t endorse Cassius er Hillary!
Obama will take anything he can get, because he’s got nothin’.
He graduated from a prodigious college and blah, blah, blah. So what? He is a full on, moron, and he comes off as some starry-eyed child spewed forth from some socialist hell.
He gets a lot of endorsements and speaks at a lot of churches and then while at the church prattles about separation of church and state and all is well. His home church “the church of blackness”, as I call it seems more concerned with advancing all things African or black and very little to do with the things of God.
I recall not long ago he was prattling on about, “what his Bible says” and defending abortion among other things. His level of obtuseness couldn’t possibly be instinctive or innate.
No, one doesn’t reach his level of anserine cecity without the benefit of complete, indoctrinating immersion into some meaningless studies program at IVY League U. What is scary is he has quite a bit of support. What is even scarier is that he nearly manages to make “herself” appear moderate.
In this case, I see the other way around: the 'religious leader' is using the politician for his own agenda.
The Church says “These people have a disordered Mentality”.
