Yeah, I am fine. I was about a quart low on blood as my right arm was a fountain and had to have a piece of shell casing dug out of my breastbone but other than that okay.
It was the thirteenth round out of a brand new and freshly cleaned, by a former Marine (TexasCowboy) using range bought factory Winchester ammo. Rather than considering a lawsuit against Springfield we sent the weapon back to them for examination to ascertain if they should recall the other 9,999 in the same batch. Springfield would not disclose the cause or discuss a recall. They did not do the knee jerk “pilot error” thing though.
Some jerk that went by the name humblegunner.
People never seem to grasp that a "three strikes" law only makes a criminal's third offense one which he is desperate to avoid conviction for...so desperate that he may commit murder to avoid it.
Are home alarms really effective?
NBC reported that many of the people that had burglar alarms didn't have them turned on. They reported it in a story about increased gun sales in Cheshire.
... with a woman blowing one of these brutes to kingdom come -- it might be a deterrent.
Amen...It'll be a great day in America when the nightly news has more stories about maimed would-be kidnappers than it does about kidnapped women's bodies being recovered.
All in all, I'd have been happy if either or both of these guys had been shot to death while commiting whatever crimes they were paroled for.
OUCH!
I would bet that you like my son who had a 22 blowup in his face, are a DEDICATED shooting glasses wearer.
As I wrote recently on another thread, the right to bear arms does not depend on the need for a militia; the existence of a militia depends on the right to bear arms.
I certainly hope they replaced the rifle. That's a pricey piece of hardware. It'd be more understandable if it were a CMP piece, but a Springfield...man oh man.
I did a CMP shoot a couple summers ago. They had a bunch of CMP surplus Garands and what seemed like cases and cases of surplus Mil-Spec black tip ammo.
I was going to shoot my M1A, but I just couldn't resist plucking a Garand off the rack. Now I just got to get around to actually relieving the Feds of one more piece of history.
Glad you're alright. Man were you lucky. That could have ended really badly.
They did not do the knee jerk pilot error thing though.
Mighty decent of them. Even more decent if the lack of explanation was accompanied by a new rifle.

I remember that photo from back when it first was posted on the gun boards. It was a new Springfield M1, IIRC. Texas range, too - Houston area, maybe?
I don't recall the entire story, but it had something to do with a tight chamber, forcing the op rod into battery - something like that.
A legitimate question: WHY?
They also don’t bite your children, attack the neighborhood children, cost a fortune in vet bills, etc.
My dog is a pet who might bark, but only if someone managed to wake him up. Only my teenage children are harder to wake up and get moving than my good, old lazy dog. And I think that’s as it should be. I wouldn’t have a dog around who even MIGHT attack somebody because that’s a liability I don’t want. But, the Mossberg and the various Smith & Wessons around the house - those I can control and make proper use of.
I’m surprised he could hold the camera so steady.
Ain’t he the one you call Mr. MaGoo?
I'm glad to hear that Springfield didn't go into immediate "blame the operator" mode, but I'd be damned hesitant to put the replacement to my shoulder without an explanation of the cause.
I strongly believe in the use of dogs over guns. You send the dog first and if the intruder shoots at the dog, you then shoot him.
Guns scare me.
Maybe you just need to spend more time with them, get to know them as it were.
Actually guns scare me too, the wrong end of them pointed in my direction. A bad move on anyone’s part friend or foe.
My best to you.
tet.
Worth bumping.
Sam Ervin said, “The Constitution should be taken like mountain whiskey — undiluted and untaxed.”
Did you make that up? I think it is great.
I'd like to use that as my tagline -- if it wouldn't be stepping on anyone's toes.
H&k USP .45 Tacticle. It's shoots like a dream, and has lots of 'coolness' about it.
It's too big to conceal carry, but you WANT people to see a gun like this. hehe
TexasCowboy didn't want a new rifle as he was mortified that he felt that he had almost caused the death of a close friend. Springfield finally gave him a refund on the two that he had bought.
I did not mean to hijack the thread as I was joking with humblegunner about his tongue in cheek comment early on. The main thing is that instilled no fear of my favorite tools. My family and friends still shoot all that we can. My lovely wife and I both conceal carry and support the 2nd with all of our hearts.
If more people were killed by drills or pencils the nanny's would be trying to ban them too.
It was a very good camera ........ mine. He was not steady at all. He was glad it was me as he had fired the weapon just previous to me. ;<)
Aint he the one you call Mr. MaGoo?
Jim Rob has given me a list of things that I cannot call humble. Mr. MaGoo ain't on the list so maybe I did at one time!
