Having conducted over a hundred of these support the troop events at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WR), FReepers are rarely surprised at these events. On July 27, FReepers from DC Chapter and beyond were rewarded with a wonderful surprise ending after they braved several lines of storms before and during the weekly support the troops gathering.
(Here is a web page with the background of the event, which is also a FReep of the cruel Code Pinkos and their fellow travelers assembled down the block to continue their vicious taunting of wounded troops. It also describes the intense hatred that the venomous Pinkos have for our troops, except those troops who join Pinko efforts. Some photos from past FReeps will be added to the web page.)
The honor roll of those present:
Albion Wilde, Andrea *, Ashley from VA*, BufordP, Cindy-true-supporter, Deputy Dawg, Doreen from NJ *, Fraxinus, George & Ethel from MD *, Jimmy Valentine s brother, kristinn, Megan from VA*, PrezUSA222, tgslTakoma, Tom the Redhunter, trooprally (Mr. & Mrs.), VAFlagwaver, VictoryNY, and BillF. * = lurker
As opposed to our 21 patriots, the Pinkos managed to assemble only 6 America-hating traitors and their well-meaning, but misguided, dupes at their location down the street.
Just before the start of the FReep, a line of rather strong storms moved through the area. It was cloudy, but the rain had stopped when FReepers begin arriving at WR.
We talked with a few troops/patients from WR, but there weren't as many out and about as usual, possibly due to the unstable weather.
Photos are from trooprally (Mrs.) and I. Mine have DSCN in their names, whereas Mrs. T's photos have DSC0 in the names. Photos with borders are hyperlinked. Click on them and a larger version should appear in another window. All of Mrs. T's fine photos can be found here.

About 30 to 40 minutes into the FReep, the rain returned, but below photos were taken during lighter spells or after it stopped.

Towards the end of the FReep, we had a surprise to the East of us.
First FReep rainbow that I've seen or even heard of.
The bus arrives
As is often the case, a highlight of the evening is when the bus with wounded troops returns from a restaurant visit. We cheer as the troops wave and give us "thumbs up" signals.
If you can't get to D.C. to join us, but would like to do something for the wounded, FReepmailAlbion Wilde,Cindy-True-Supporter, or VAFlagwaver for some ideas.
Come join us every Friday night per below details between the hours of 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm.

Bill,
Keep up the *outstanding* work. I am a service member who has seen combat in Iraq and have more than a few buddies that have been injured over there. ***I cannot stress the importance of the role you are playing in the states.*** The war stateside, in the public view and in the headlines will ultimately decide our country's fate. As for morale...we get angry overseas about hearing ppl whine about the war, but when we hear these stories we are profoundly rejuvenated. I commend you for your service and bringing the fight to the enemy!!
Will you come out this Friday night to support our wounded heroes? Want to help cover the backs of our brave troops against the psyche-ops of treacherous Code Pink and their allies? Will you help our troops become "profoundly rejuvenated?"
Please don't let the troops think that regular Americans are too busy with TV, ballgames, movies and other recreation to peacefully express thanks to the wounded troops. Countering America-hating leftists is a bonus.
As always, the DC Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence. No profanity. No racism. No provocations. Obey the law. Treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
Fridays, 6:30 to 9:30 pm Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 7200 Georgia Ave., at Elder St., NW, Washington, DC
On street parking is usually easy to find. Location is about 6 or 7 blocks from Takoma metro station and is walkable, but it is best if you get a ride. If you want a ride, FReepmail tgslTakoma and me, preferably with your cell phone number as far in advance as possible. If you wait until Friday afternoon, it may be too late to coordinate a Metro ride.
BTW, I forgot to properly link the photos in the report so that they open in a new window. If you click on a photo to see the larger version, you must use the back button on your browser to return to the thread.
Join us tonight or in the next few Fridays if you can. Cheer up some wounded troops and their relatives.
Also, keep in mind that major activities will be happening in DC in September. If you live outside the area and wanted to visit the nation's capitol or see it again, DC FReepers and area GOE members could use your help beginning Sunday, Sept. 9 through at least Saturday, Sept. 15, possibly some after that.
Even if you can't come for the whole time, a short visit to reinforce us in some activities would be most appreciated. The country that you save may be your own.
September events are subject to change, but here is the initial thread about this:
Leftists Announce Sept. Actions in D.C. (Help the D.C. Chapter and GOE Defend America!)

The anti-American left has announced their plans to descend on our nation's capital in September to help their terrorist allies overseas on the political front in Congress.
September is going to be the mother of all battles. The left is going all out to bring about the defeat of America in the war on terror. Their immediate goal is to pressure Congress into giving up on the Iraq front so that their terrorist allies have a safe haven in which to wage war on America and our allies in the Middle East.
They believe public opinion is on their side. And why shouldn't they? Nearly everytime they rear their ugly heads, too many patriotic Americans allow them to spread their propaganda unanswered.
The anti-American left is counting on you to stay home in September and pretend that if you ignore them they will go away and they won't get any attention from the media or Congress. That strategy has worked quite well for them over the past few years as they have captured Congress and gotten nothing but fawning coverage in the press while most of us acted like we're too good to stand up for our troops against them.
Those of you who have sat on the sidelines have one last chance to redeem yourselves. If you allow this Congress to succumb to the anti-American left and betray our troops in the field, will you be able to live yourself or look those troops in the eyes should they make it home alive?
Those of you who have stood with us before know that this one is for all the marbles and will do what you have to do to be there.
This September is a time for sacrifice on the homefront. Not of blood, but of time, money and effort. Our troops have the blood part covered. Patriotic Americans need to make the time, spend a little traveling money and make the effort to come to D.C. and fight the politcal battles for our troops.
The anti-American left is planning a week long assault beginning Sept. 15. The D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com and the Gathering of Eagles will be there to meet them. We are also planning for actions the week before. On Sunday, Sept. 9, we'll be participating in the Freedom Walk. On Monday, Sept. 10, we'll be holding a press conference/rally at 11 a.m. in Upper Senate Park across from the Capitol to kick off a day of lobbying Congress to support victory.
Friday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. we'll have our regular support the troops rally at the main gate to Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Saturday, Sept. 15 is going to be the big day when the left launches their assault. We'll be holding a rally in the morning as we did at the first Gathering of Eagles on March 17. We will line the march route of the leftists from the White House to the Capitol. The precise details will be announced in the coming weeks.
[snip details of various leftist activities]
Your inaction will let them defeat America. The fate of our nation is in your hands.[emphasis added]
Bump.
