I taped a segment on the O'Reilly Factor for airing tonight to defend Free Republic against charges that it is a hate site. The segment will air in the 'D block' around 8:35 p.m. EDT and rerun at 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. EDT.
Rather than tell how it went, I'll leave it for folks to watch and decide for themselves. I hope I did right by FR.
We'll be having company tonight as some of Bill O'Reilly's two million-plus viewers check out FR for themselves. So please bear that in mind as you comment tonight. The Daily Kos is waging a very nasty personal campaign of retribution against O'Reilly. No sense in us piling on. Let's use this as an opportunity to show people why FR is the best conservative site on the web.

*Okay, I’m probably getting ahead of myself. But after you read this column, I think you’ll agree that tonight or tomorrow Bill will have no choice but to slam FreeRepublic.com. It’s only fair and balanced.
No. He's no populist. He just wants his audience to think he is.
I think Bill did not do his homework.
I think he is no longer trust worthy to give me commentary on the news.

That's a lie. There are Guiliani supporters here today. Most of those banned either (a) lied about actual conservatives to promote Rudy or (b) threw themselves on their swords in some half-assed protest. Don't come here and lie about what was done. Too many here still remember what really happened.
I read the threads and disagree. Don't you call me a liar. Just like 3 witnesses to crime....all three saw something different. Notice how I did not attack you by accusing you of lying. The great purge of 2007 was seen by thousands and FR was the joke of the internet for a few weeks. The meltdown was beyond ugly.
It turned out to be an article about some nut who used to “be somebody” in journalism - not any of the replying posters. So much for that “No Spin Zone” (which I think of as SOAK on the washer dial).
I have a theory about this. The tin-foil dispenser is out but I haven't folded the foil into a hat *yet* ;-)
Recall that following the defeat of the 'shamnesty' bill, calls went out from the US Senate to reinstate the fairness doctrine; also Senator Lott's statement (roughly) that "we have to get talk radio under control".
The US House of Representatives (under Dem Speaker Pelosi) said that they would not pony up any $$ to enforce the fairness doctrine.
Yesterday or today, I saw a couple of stories about a newspaper having to cut off anonymous blog comments because they were 'hateful'. And now this.
I am wondering if this is part of a concerted effort, or what Rush Limbaugh calls a "journalistic front"...
(I'm still waiting for someone to post that photoshopped image of the "O RLY Factor" :-)

Are you sure you aren’t thinking about Lucianne.com? Many of my friends have been banned from there in the past six months. Some were members there for years, even donating large contributions, year after year.
One long time poster even got banned for posting a link of the FBI’s Most Wanted List.
I have not seen that kind of irresponsible banning, here - (even though I am a fairly new member.)
I wonder myself. This site is one of the best conservitive sites. Why put us together with DailyKos which posts inflamatory stuff(?)
Shucks. I eagerly tuned in to see him to off on the man who put posters in his neighborhood this morning. Instead, we got this. He keeps saying the Dem candidates are intimidated by Kos. Maybe it is O’Reilly who is calling out for help because he is being intimidated.
I missed the 8pm showing of O’Reilly’s show, but will definitely check out the 11pm show...
We must sit tight and wait for Kristinn to tell us what happened on BOR. See if he got a copy of the paper BOR was waiving around.

They may have done a LexisNexis search for specific phrases linked to FreeRepublic and found a zotted poster's words that hadn't been deleted. Interesting that he didn't accuse anyone of the "N-word" as an evil Right-wing Hate site would.
