Newswise — Researchers have found that men who drink an average of four to seven glasses of red wine per week are only 52% as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer as those who do not drink red wine, reports the June 2007 issue of Harvard Men’s Health Watch. In addition, red wine appears particularly protective against advanced or aggressive cancers.
Researchers in Seattle collected information about many factors that might influence the risk of prostate cancer in men between ages 40 and 64, including alcohol consumption. At first the results for alcohol consumption seemed similar to the findings of many earlier studies: There was no relationship between overall consumption and risk. But the scientists went one step further by evaluating each type of alcoholic beverage independently. Here the news was surprising—wine drinking was linked to a reduced risk of prostate cancer. And when white wine was compared with red, red had the most benefit. Even low amounts seemed to help, and for every additional glass of red wine per week, the relative risk declined by 6%.
Why red wine? Doctors don’t know. But much of the speculation focuses on chemicals—including various flavonoids and resveratrol—missing from other alcoholic beverages. These components have antioxidant properties, and some appear to counterbalance androgens, the male hormones that stimulate the prostate.
Many doctors are reluctant to recommend drinking alcohol for health, fearing that their patients might assume that if a little alcohol is good, a lot might be better. The Harvard Men’s Health Watch notes that men who enjoy alcohol and can drink in moderation and responsibly may benefit from a lower risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and cardiac death.

Seriously, wasn't there several articles a while back..(maybe a year or so) that the stuff in red wines, (if consumed at the levels in this article, ) can somehow "mask" the PSA levels..so the solution may be more dangerous than the problem..
The PSA test, whiel not foolproof, is still the easiest way to detect a possible problem, and it's nothign but stupidity if every male over 40 doesn't have it done every year.
First everyone tells me to to quit drinking, now everyone says how healthy it is....SHEESH! LOL

Hey I used Saw Palmetto and drink a little wine now and then. My Prostate was removed two weeks ago. I want my money back!
It’s just the nature of clinical trials. You’re never 100% certain. You’re always dealing with probabilities.
100% protection is only possible NEVER...
Red wine is good for the heart too. Secret for a long life drink and cook with red wine, use olive oil for everything, use garlic in abundance, eat and cook with fresh vegetables and fruits and limit the amount of red meat and above all enjoy preparing and eating your food. The French have known this for generations.
So 17 glasses per week will eliminate prostate cancer?
18 or more will give you the ability to inflict it on
your enemies!
I learned this the hard way--though I had heard it, I was doubtful--when my PSA suddenly shot up, and, after considerable testing and other investigation, we proved that it was due to bicycle riding. (I then got a wide bicycle seat.)

Look, I’m as much for a healthy prostate as anybody - YOUCH! - and I know you have to read a lot of - OWOWOWOW!! - stuff to keep current, but if you’d finished that article - WOOHOO! - you’da knowed you’re supposed to take it out of the bottle first. WAAAAAAHHH!
