Grant Barnes... using the methods of the eco-terrorist group Earth Liberation Front...

When Barnes was arrested, police found a box of seven of the devices in the back of his car.

Police said they are replicas of bombs shown on ELF's Web site.

His dad is a former deputy district attorney ...so this kid will likely get out early.

His dad : Thomas Barnes, a former deputy district attorney in El Paso County...
That explains why the sentence was so light.

Hmmm, and it might indicate he’s got some ‘daddy issues’ as well come to think of it....

I was struck by the contrast with the sentence for a crime against property (SUVs) versus crimes against persons, such as the usual three to five years, suspended, for the rape of a child...

So what is the “Carbon fingerprint” of 7 burning SUV’s? You think that little stunt put more green house gases into the atmosphere than any of those vehicles could in 100 years of driving?

Unless someone was hurt or killed, this is an excessive sentence. Make him work to pay off damages, but 12 years for a few SUV’s?

No way.

That's not a 'light sentence', that's an absolute travesty of justice, that calls for action by a committee of local activists.

I hear Enviro-Wackos rank right up there with Child Molesters in The Big House

We can only wish. Soon as I saw the headline, I thought, "Oh, some good news today." Freakin' Enviro-Wackos are terrorists and should be treated as such. I hope he does every day of the 12 years.

Please tell me you are not serious.

A property issue versus a crime which scars one for life? The two are not even close to being comparable.

With what, he has so much time to judge others that there is no time left for him to have a job.

His life will go on as before, just not as free, living off the fruits of others labor.

Wow, occasionally something at least roughly resembling justice is meted out against these eco-terrorist nutbags. Too often prosecutors and judges seem to be willing to go easy on these idiots because they’re “idealists” or some such rubbish.

Post of the day Walkingfeather. I love it.

Hopefully this sentence will make others think twice about destroying people’s property for their “cause.”

Thanks for the ping.

Good for this judge, whoever it is for not pussy footing around and doling out a light sentence like Judge Aiken did with some of the Family.

I take it this wasn’t a federal court so probation will be in play, do you know if that’s correct?

I believe that this was a state court.

The reporting is not clear.

His dad will try to help him get early probation.

I agree; that is my point. I am pleased that these perps received a twelve-year sentence. It just throws into contrast the idiotically light sentences given for crimes against the person. These entirely replaceable, insured SUVs appear more valuable to the judiciary than the lifelong mental injury to rape victims.
