Virginia eyes plan to deport illegals

RICHMOND — Virginia lawmakers yesterday proposed a mandate for state sheriffs and jail wardens to initiate deportation proceedings for illegal aliens.

The proposal was one of several made by a State Crime Commission task force trying to crack down on illegal immigration.

Right now, police and jail officials must wait for federal immigration agents to decide whether to take custody of a suspect.

Task force members also recommended that Virginia adopt a uniform, statewide policy on dealing with illegal aliens but said they need a better understanding of federal law, costs and immigration statistics before making a final decision.

"What the General Assembly needs to understand is what is pre-empted [by federal law] and what is not pre-empted, what law enforcement can do and what law enforcement cannot do," said state Sen. Kenneth W. Stolle, commission co-chairman. "Instead of acting in the dark, we want to shed some light on the issue."

Mr. Stolle, Virginia Beach Republican, said immigration policies throughout the state are inconsistent and create enforcement problems.

I’d love to see Webb snap this in the bud. It contradicts his campaign position by 180 degrees. We sure taught the GOP a lesson on immigration by sending Jim Webb to the Senate.

George Allen didn’t lose his seat because people wanted to send a lesson to the GOP. The (Com)Post was running regular stories about Allen being a racist which hurt him a lot, in NOVA there are a large amount of democrats who have settled up there, Iraq was grinding people down and Senators are a fairly unknown bunch for your average voter.

All that and he ran a bad campaign.

FWIW, this is exactly why the Federal government has been so hell-bent on providing amnesty to illegal aliens in this country.

The real danger (as they perceive it) is that this country is going to end up consisting of a bunch of wealthy states that throw out aliens and a bunch of states that become self-inflicted Third World sh!t-holes.

Any state or sanctuary city who continue with their refusal to report their illegals, when discovered, to the Feds for deportation should have their Homeland Security related funding dropped.

I think your average Virginian would be in favor of some type of enforcement that gets rid of the dirtbags, MS-13 types and other criminals. Where people go wobbly is the guy who works to support his family and keeps his head down. He mows their lawns, paints their houses and generally keeps a low profile. Kicking him out is where people lose their enthusiasm.

One problem is that many of them simply turn around and sneak back into our country. How about this: We tattoo a big red "L" on their forehead and then release them. If that's too severe for you, we could at least use one of those long-lasting dyes instead of the tattoo. The ultimate solution, however, is the fines and penalties that you levy on the businesses who hire them. Establishing a national database for ID checking would not be that difficult and any firm hiring illegal aliens would face severe fines (e.g., $10,000/day/person) with repeat offenders doing jail time with that sherrif in Arizona.

The ultimate solution, however, is the fines and penalties that you levy on the businesses who hire them.

Take away the illegals' access to the public benefits programs, too.

Let’s also put the responsible employers into jail for a year for the first offense. I doubt if there would ever be more than a token few punished in such a manner. Do it once to show that yo mean business and the rest will avoid the chance of going to jail. Everyone knows that jail is not a very nice place.

Good idea. State Governments may be able to solve the U.S. immigration problems that the Federal Government is too cumbersome and too decadent to solve. Let's hope so.

They can help defray the costs of exportation by deducting as much of the expenses as possible from the budgets, salaries--and ASSETS--of public officials who abet illegal immigrants.

As long as the employers are not held accountable for dealing with fake IDs or other forms of fraud. But, the business of hiring contractors and dumping the problem on them is BS. Too easy to look the other way. If Wal-Mart wants hire contractors for jobs then they should have to prove that they inspected the contractor’s paperwork.
