If Syria begins a war of attrition, they will find themselves in nuclear hell. I for one believe Israel has the will to use nuclear weapons in defense of their right to exist.

And, how many nukes does Syria have exactly? How many does Israel have? Hey Syria, good luck with your plans (LOL).

Instead, the next war will involve Katyusha rocket and ballistic missiles that will target strategic points in Israel, especially civilian infrastructure.

They're forgetting (or the author is too ignorant) that the Israelis performed poorly in Lebanon because they were trying to *minimize* civilian casualites (as are we).

If Syria attacks cities with missles, and I'm not talking about these single Katyushas being fired willy-nilly, it will give Israel the pretext needed to destroy Damascus.

Syria to Israel: "In the next war, we will attack your cities with our most powerful weapons! HA! How will you respond?"

Israel: "The same way."

Media: "Israeli warmongers threaten Middle East peace process."

Guess he believes that Israel will fight the war the way the Syrians want it fought...

...” “This will be a war of attrition, which the Israelis are not good at,” he explained. The conflict, he said, “will be more like a war between cities than a war on the battlefield.”...

What this fool does not understand is that should the Syria military rain missiles upon Israeli civilians, Syria will be attrited - using tactical nuclear weapons and neutron weapons.

It really sounds like Syria thinks Israel will not strike back. The last 20 years has taught them that Arabs can strike Israel while Israel will hold its punches in response. However, I think once you start targeting cities with ballistic missiles, all bets are off. At least they should be off—hopefully, even a fool like Olmert will respond.

The official said that the war will not be limited to a single strike, but will be protracted in nature. "This will be a war of attrition, which the Israelis are not good at," he explained. The conflict, he said, "will be more like a war between cities than a war on the battlefield."

This bozo thinks Israel thinks like the US. The politicians in Israel actually have the stones to strike back. This clown may find himself with a cruise missile up his a$$.

If that's the Syrian strategic plan it's going to be a very bad time for Damascus. In about 24 hours Israel will have air supremacy and its pick of targets, and the Syrian survivors will be thinking in terms of urban renewal.

Syria's best hope in this conflict is terror prosecuted by their Hezbollah proxies. There at least the international community will be on its side as it always is. An open exchange of missiles is asking for a world-class conventional butt-kicking. If it gets bad enough it may not stay conventional.

Somebody remind me why Olmert wanted to give the Golan back, please...

Syria prefers to avoid a direct, "classic" confrontation

Prefer's got nothing to do with it, though it may very well end up not being remotely classic.

But a war between city-states? Fuhgeddaboudit.

It's hilarious these yo-yos think they can dictate how the war will be fought... Yes, the West will kowtow to our every whim, in all things, even in war, because they are dhimmis, infidels, sons of pigs and monkeys, and we are their rightful overlords.

Hope I live to see it.

"This will be a war of attrition, which the Israelis are not good at,"

Ah, but a war of attrition is something Israel's biggest ally IS good at.

With those threats it sounds like it’s time for a preemptive strike from Israel. I can’t imagine Olmert having the stones to do it though. The good thing about any war involving Israel is that they’ll control the air in about 3 days. The next time they buzz Assad’s palace maybe they’ll be dropping bombs.
