They're forgetting (or the author is too ignorant) that the Israelis performed poorly in Lebanon because they were trying to *minimize* civilian casualites (as are we).
If Syria attacks cities with missles, and I'm not talking about these single Katyushas being fired willy-nilly, it will give Israel the pretext needed to destroy Damascus.
The Syrians have a not so secret weapon - Olmert. The Israelis need new leadership before any new major conflict IMO.
They could position those tubes in less than 48 hours. Would Syria attack that incursion, or would they continue to fight a a terror war from the hills and gutters?
The Lebanon incursion was not a good measure of Israeli capability against a nation-state. Damascus is just tooooo CLOSE to be talking tough.
Actually trying to think of the prophetic passage, I believe it was Isaiah that prophecied Damascus would be left a smoking pile of rubble. Such attacks, say a couple missles a day would be shot down. If Syria increases the attack and a couple get through, I would not be surprised to see Tel Aviv complete the ‘war of the cities’ and vaporize Damascus.
