FDA Recalling More Castlebarry Products ASAP
CNN | 7-22-07

Posted on 07/21/2007 3:21:30 PM PDT by Global2010

The FDA is compiling a full list right now for release by the end of the day.

The Castlebarrys Chili Suace for hot dogs showed out of 17 cans tested, 16 had botulism.

I have a link of the companies list as of 7-18-07.

I went down to get some chili today at the lil boat launch store and saw Cattle Drive Chili and was going to buy some as I remember something about it written at FR of those who eat it.

Then I looked at the company name and knew about the chili sauce recall but decided not to take a chance on the Cattle Drive Chili.

A few hours later sure enough the FDA was on CNN saying it is much worse and anything that was on that line to be canned is to be double bagged and tossed if opened.

I will repost the link and info so it is clickable.

I’ve never even heard of those brands. Do they not sell them on the west coast or what?

I was going to say I’ll stick with good old Hormel Chili made here in Minnesota, then I looked at the can. It states that it is distributed by Hormel Food Sales. Nowhere on the can does it say where it is actually made.

I just e-mailed their customer service asking them where their chili is manufactured.

I wish that information was included on all of our food.

If the company did that you would learn that they are making it out of disease ridden bandages and old toenail clippings imported from China. Then you wouldn’t buy it!

I love making my own chili, but sometimes I’m craving a quick chili dog and Hormel does the trick. Also requires diced onion, shredded cheddar and mustard.

Heaven on a paper plate! :)

Now I was just craving a chili dog and you had to go and ruin it for me. :P

Thanks for the calorie savings. LOL

Castleberry stew is pure grease. Dinty Moore is much better.

to paraphrase from Bismark:
Those who like laws, sausages or chili should not watch it being made.

BUT SERIOUSLY, I agree with you. There should be more information/
transparency by food manufacturers. But I do suspect there are
some things that might shock us!

Hormel Chili is good and dependable.
But occassionally I do indulge in a can of Wolf Brand Chili
(a Texas-Oklahoma brand).
And I do this knowing it will do plenty of damage to my arteries!

We don’t have that brand in my neck of the woods.

How is it different than Hormel? I love food, so you’ve made me curious.

Do they have Bush's up there in Uffdaville? Being as it comes in glass jars, you can whup up that quick chilidog and reseal the goods until midnight snack time, when you can do it all over again...

I wonder what foreign country mixed up the brew before putting it into the cans? I swear, it's not safe to eat any more. Period!

We rarely had these problems when we did it all in America!

Mmmmmmm...that looks good. Yeah, I’ve seen the Bush brand around as far as baked beans and such.

I’ll have to look for the glass jars of chili. Great idea!

I recall a number of years ago reading that Mr. Hormel gave large portions of his corporate profits to support advancing homosexual causes and such. Haven’t bought a Hormel product since. (I’m sure by me not buying chili or Spam his pocketbook is really hurting, but I just don’t want my money to support those kinds of causes if I know it).
