NOTICE OF COMMITTEE HEARING
The Senate Committee on the Judiciary has scheduled a "Hearing to Examine the Prosecution of Igancio Ramos and Jose Compean" for Tuesday July 17th, 2007 at 10:00am in Room 226 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.
Senator Feinstein will preside.
By order of the Chairman.
Sutton had the ability to bring these guys up on lesser charges, but he chose to prosecute for the most serious possible crimes and put them in prison by withholding critical evidence from the jury. Sutton is in the district where Bush’s ranch is located - Crawford. The other two cases with BC agents going to prison are also in Sutton’s jurisdiction — the Mexican Govt. demanded prosecution, and Sutton/Gonzalez/Bush gave them what they wanted. Testimony at a Congressional Committee was given by DOJ staffer who admitted that exonerating facts were withheld in this case. A lying drugrunner is free because Bush’s boys are playing nice with Mexico and not our own people who are trying to do their job.
He offered a lesser charge, but both refused the deal.
Free our innocent border patrol agents. Oh, and also our innocent Marines as well!
Thanks for the reminder.
With some of the folks on that senate comm. the fur will fly
That would be well and good, but don’t believe you have all the facts of what it is like with the border. Your concept of reality may be shaken to the core if you fully realized how ugly this border, the invasion is, or how a do nothing bunch of white house flunkies, have left our southern flank wide open to all who come through. As a matter of fact, their lackadaisical attitude has got us be trampled by the stampede coming north, at over 3,000 a night.
So what? If I believed that I should not have been charged at all, I would take my chances in front of a jury, too.
Thanks for the ping, and thanks for the tools. I e-mailed my illustrious senator “Turban” Durbin.
then don’t complain about the harshness of the penalty.
innocent??
These do issues have nothing to do with each other. I agree, we need to close the border. I have said that OVER and OVER.
This has nothing to do with that. These guys broke the law, then tried to cover it up.

HUNTER TO PRESIDENT: “PARDON OUR BORDER PATROLMEN” | ||
Washington, D.C. – Tonight, U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) made the following statement regarding President Bush’s decision to commute the prison sentence of former aide Lewis “Scooter” Libby, while refusing to grant a pardon to convicted Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos: “If the President of the United States is going to commute the sentence of Scooter Libby, he should immediately accompany that with a pardon for Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos. Agents Compean and Ramos have been sentenced to 11 and 12 years in federal prison, respectively, for wounding a drug smuggler who was bringing 750 pounds of drugs across the border from Mexico. “If Scooter Libby is going to receive this treatment, and there very well could be a compelling reason for the President’s actions, agents Compean and Ramos should then be provided a full pardon. “Mr. President, pardon our Border Patrolmen.” NOTE: Congressman Hunter introduced legislation, H.R. 563, to pardon agents Compean and Ramos. H.R. 563 presently has 100 cosponsors. |
I like Duncan Hunter, regrettably he is pandering for votes.
I am seeing a trend across the Nation in the last 10 years or so of increased Prosecutorial tyranny. I don’t know why this is happening. Probably many reasons - need to be “Tough on Crime” — criminal justice/injustice is a growth industry. Justify all the lawyers churning out from the law schools. Whatever. I have sat in on trials that I couldn’t believe were worthy of anyone’s time...all to give the new prosecutors some courtroom experience. Ramos & Compean may not be angels, but they don’t deserve what happened to them. You still haven’t said anything to the contrary.
I don’t think they should be treated as heroes. They committed a crime, lied and tried to cover it up.
Had they been honest about the shooting, I would say probation, or loss of job, at the max.
They were given a chance to plea down and refused.
Unless you are a Johnny Sutton groupie, then look at the fact and you will see that the bad guys here are Sutton and the drug dealer.
Thanks for all your hard work, Spirit! You made it very easy!! Action taken....emails hit all but one.
John Walsh, a strict law and order person, has come out in support of Ramos and Compean. So do many other Americans. Unfortunately there are also other victims of the Johnny Suttons and Mike Nifongs.
Head in the sand. You need to wake up. Living in California like I do, its become intolerable with as many as 13-16 illegals living in a two bedroom house. By chilling the border agents, it sends the wrong message. Putting these guys in prison makes no sense. You could have been put on admin leave. Sutton was given the okay because Bush wants open borders.
Btw they were found not guilty of attempted manslaughter. The sentence is disportionate to the crime in my opinion. The problem is the mandatory 10 years for the use of a firearm. I feel
congress needs to address this issue when an LEO is accused of a crime while performing his job.
