Toddler Was Denied Shower Access as Well:

A couple says their vacation was ruined when an RV park owner told them they weren't welcome after discovering their 2-year-old foster son had the HIV virus. Last week, Dick and Silvia Glover went to the Wales West RV Park in Silver Hill, Ala., with their foster son Caleb. When the boy was banned from using the pool and showers, the Glovers said they were offered an uncomfortable and painful choice: They could either keep Caleb out of the water or leave.

There good works will earn them a wonderful place in God's Kingdom.

No they won't. But they are good people (as people go) and the park owner is simply ignorant here. The parke owner has an attitude that is as repulsive as your attitude towards Alabama.

Neil Young is a great great great songwriter and musician, but Southern Man and Alabama Song are examples of the self congratulatory, preening pseudomorality which is every bit as selfrighteous and bigoted as ole green tooth in "Uneasy Rider" (if you missed that Charley Daniels tune).

You clearly know about as much about theology as you do about Alabama.

HIV has ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH and NADA chance of living a milisecond upon contact with the chlorinated water of a pool. The pool owner is a private citizen running a private business and has the right to be as stupid and ignorant as he wants to be with his business, and I am all for leaving him alone in doing so. That doesn't stop his fears from being grounded in irrationality.

That said, I believe there are better ways of dealing with this than inviting the pretty airheads (network news) in to "expose" the guy. There is enough stupidity on all counts here to fill the guy's pool without any water at all.

You can’t get hiv through the feces or urine, because 1: there are trace amounts of the virus in feces and urine: 2: The virus cannot live outside the body, 3: the water in general kills HIV 4: poolwater is chlorinated and it kills hiv immediately.

Swimming in a pool with hiv is a non issue because the virus is very weak when it gets outside the body.

if someone merely tries to do that, it ruins you financially. And many lawyers will do just that. In our litigious society, you do not need to lose the case in order to incur a considerable loss.

Ain't that the truth! Even a pair of paints can ballon into a double digit lawsuit! But in this case, if the parents of the child sue, the park operator is stuck either way.

I wonder about HIC being transferred by mosquitoes, as malaria and heartworms are.

“If a child has ever used a public pool, there is probably a 100% chance that they have come in contact with someone with something that is contagious and/or harmful.”

When I was a kid, that’s how pretty much everything got spread, especially pink-eye.

I can knock all of your points out of the park with this photo of a virus infecting a t-cell. Now, take your pseudoscientific bullshit out of here.

It is not a public facility. It is a privately own pool.

That's an interesting argument, but the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act both define "public accommodations" as including certain private establishments, including the RV park and swimming pool in question.

The virus, oddly enough, is too fragile even to live in parasites. You really need to get educated about the virus if you think it's transmitted through ways it can't be transmitted. Thebody.com, the comprehensive site about HIV information

I'm not sure I can help you

I don't want your help, I didn't ask for your help and I certainly don't respect anything you say and the way you say it.

I've been reading your posts to all the other people who are on this thread, and would invite others to do so. You are one egomaniac.

Point me towards a legitimate scientific study not performed by a homosexual with an obvious agenda and I’ll listen.

"Two-year-olds do, however, pee in pools. Bodily fluids, ya know."

After 25 years, doesn't anybody here have even basic knowledge of HIV?

Unlike the Flu or other hardy virus's, HIV begins dying the the moment it leaves the human body. For all of the havoc it wreaks inside the body, the moment it loses that protection, its doomed. HIV is ironically one of the weakest infectious agents in the world outside of its host. The common cold is far more hardy. Outside of the body, poof, it dies. Thats just contact with air. A chlorinated pool is probably the safest place all those kids could be. No one at that campground was ever in any danger.

Its not being PC to say that the owner screwed up here, and most people are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Oonly tiny numbers of HIV viruses are found in saliva (compared to vast numbers in other fluids). Not one person has ever been shown to have been infected by saliva or tears.

Which does not negate the fact that the virus can be transmitted through saliva. You were incorrect when you said it "Can't". Given the hyper politicization of the HIV virus, I would suspect that the possibility is even greater than stated.

Nobody has ever contracted HIV from kissing anybody, and that includes people in long term romantic relationships with HIV+ people.

I didn't realize you were an expert in pathology in addition to evolution of species (sarc). Given the fact that saliva is a possible transmission vector and the fact that there is no cure for aids, would you allow your kids to take that chance?

And you're worried about getting infected from being spat on?

Well, I didn't say that, but since you decided to bring it up, I wouldn't appreciate getting spat on in the first place. Saliva can contain all kinds of germs. Why do think it is impolite to not cover your mouth when you cough?

As an aside, if it is so difficult to get aids, why do the lobbies say "we are all at risk"?

I don’t think it is possible to communicate the HIV virus through pool water.

Ever see a two year old run and fall down? Ever see one fall and end up with a cut on their head (head wounds bleed profusely)? A two year old at a public swimming pool (reported by the foster parent as having HIV) - the sides of public swimming pools (most often of concrete) can be wet - wet concrete can be slippery when wet. The child, running, slips and falls and cuts his/her head on the poolside and bleeds profusely. People coming to the aid of the child gets the child's blood on them. If any person has an open wound - Bingo, bodily fluid transfer from an HIV infected person. Yes, there are probably huge numbers of people who are swimming at public pools who are HIV positive. Yes, this scenereo could happen anywhere without people being aware. That is not the issue here. The owners/operators were informed of the potential health hazard and made a decision. End of story.

Of the billions of pages of information on the Internet no one thus far on this thread has cited one case of a person being infected by HIV in a swimming pool. Not One!!!

You have not addressed my issue. If it takes three, four or five years for HIV to manifest itself how could you remember where you got it if you have no real clue when you got it?

Why don't you address this?

Actually, the virus cannot be transmitted through saliva even though trace amounts are found in saliva because HIV needs a very high viral load to infect a person. The viral load in spit isn’t enough to infect anybody. Heck, most of the times (99.97%) it’s not even able to transmit through semen because the viral load is so low.

Oh, and to the person that wanted a “non-homosexual agenda” link about HIV, here you go.

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/basic/index.htm

The CDC itself says that HIV is a weak virus.

HIV Cannot survive in a chlorinated environment.

Therefore, it cannot be transmitted in a pool.
