I asked one of the few conservative Republican senators who stuck with President Bush on immigration to assess how Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell handled the issue. Asking not to be quoted by name, he replied: "If this were a war, Sen. McConnell should be relieved of command for dereliction of duty." Not only did the minority leader end up voting against an immigration bill that he said was better than the 2006 version that he supported, but he also abandoned his post, keeping off the floor during final stages of Senate debate.

A better prospect, it seems to me, would be to exempt entirely the business-purposed movement of capital, if remitted from an N.A. bank.
The reason this specific situation is of enormous concern is that, if one is not VERY careful, one winds up with a de facto ''Tobin Tax'', so-called after the academic airhead (and, not coincidentally I'm sure, Nobel economics prize winner) who has advocated a worldwide tax on capital movement for decades. That such a tax will instantly lead to gigantic amounts of evasion on the part of corporations, far more sophisticated about capital usage than are governments (duh!), simply eludes him.
The net effect of a tax like this being implemented is to increase, very sizeably, the proportion of the economy that is or goes 'underground'. NOT a good idea at all.
Or, perhaps, one might only levy the tax on remittances under, say, $5000, which would surely nail all the illegal alien remittances out of the country. This type of limit, though, has a bad history. Sooner or later, the vermin in the Regress will keep raising and raising and raising the limit. Ultimately, although it would certainly take some few years, legitimate business capital movement would get caught up in this scheme, too.
Senator Sessions said something like that on the Senate floor. IIRC it was something like, when so many of our citizens don’t like what we’re doing on a bill, maybe we should listen.
That would require a constitutional amendment. "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws" (14th Amendment).

The public sees that both parties are pandering to illegals. Right now there is no distinction being made as to which party is more responsible for the problem. I do believe the the republicans have the greatest ability to come out of this with a Reagan style majority if they will give up this notion that they must pander to a certain group.
If they will do what is best for America, enforce the current laws, build the allocated fence, and forget about amnesty for illegals, they can turn this political disaster around. The democrats, however, are backed into a corner. If they even think about doing what is right for the country, their base will be up in arms screaming. But those members of the democratic party who believe in American sovereignty, with justice and fairness for all, will leave their party in droves to vote for a pro sovereignty, anti amnesty Republican.
I have come to believe that at least some of our 06 losses were deliberately engineered by the Republican National Committee--to provide a "Congress Bush Could Work With."
Imagine that--not only does Bush sell out America, he gets the party elites to sell out the party!!
!! If there was just a way to make those Repubs cheated out of their seats come forward about the RNC, we could see a change in leadership. Now, all we can do is withhold donations to the nat'l committee.
A) Bush drove the nail in himself. He didn't need any help. Indeed, blaming conservative Republicans for Bush's political fallout is the same kind of inane logic that got the Republicans put into the minority in 06. It's always someone else's fault.
B) The [lunatic] idea that offically open borders and amnesty for 12 million illegals was somehow going to get Democrat hispanics to vote Republican is beyond bizzare. It is an indication of delusions so great that one has to doubt whether the proponents of such nonsense are even partially grounded in reality. It is so goofy that I can't even think of a suitable analogy.
I wonder which of the consevative Republicans who stuck with the president on this bill Novak spoke to. I thought only rino's voted for the illegals.

The sitting President is the head of the party. The head of the RNC is his handpicked surrogate. There is no hope of anything at the RNC changing until and unless we elect a conservative Republican to the White House.
It's a good thing when career politicians are reminded who is really in charge in this country. The smart ones need only an occasional gentle reminder. The arrogant ones require a swift Size 14 inserted intrarectally. This issue of who's in charge very definitely did not end with the defeat of this lamentable piece of legislation. Certain members of the Ruling Class are going to be looking for work and one of mine will be one of them.

Then the leadership of the national committee should be undermined and repudiated by the party members—starting with the states’ GOP.
