Immigration Bill Fragments To Get Third Chance (This Is like Freddy Kruger, Folks Alert)
Debbie Schlussel.com ^ | 06/29/2007 | Debbie Schlussel

As Mark Twain might say, reports of the Immigration Bill's death have been highly exaggerated.

The bill might have been killed for the second time, but today's Wall Street Journal reports that at least three key parts of it may still have life (one of which, the Dream Act, I've previously written about). Yes, it's like Freddy Kruger. The bill never completely dies. These, too, must be killed:

It ain't over 'til it's over.

3 Parts of new Amnesty Bill.

1. Creates stealth enemy witthin the military. Mixed Loyalty or False Loyalty, rising in the ranks is dangerous.

2.Agriculture workers get residencey = Amnesty and Anchor Babies and the invasion continues.

3. Techichal workers. Post All Positions Available at ALL Universities and the positions will nearly all be filled by AMERICANS.

Another Wolf at the door dressed as a Sheep !!!

Secure the damn border senate! We don’t need any new feel good laws no one is going to enforce. Enforce the ones on the books!

I am not particularly in favor of that idea myself, but it does occur to me that we could have our own “foreign legion” and it could probably be the roughtest toughest division of marines we could form. Think about it. Let anyone from anywhere apply so long as they meet topnotch qualifications.
We could take applicants from any country. For many physically fit young men from around the world it would be a ticket to USA. 6 years of honorable service and they are entitled to citizenship. ... Why not a ‘foreign legion’?

Oddly enough, I don't have a problem with taking today's actual farm workers, with good records and sponsors, and granting residence and work permits. It'd fast track some form of monitored Bracero program, should exclude extended families, and specifically omit the urban / industrial blight that is the real culprit (aside from the illegal part).

Once someone is here legally, or to avoid being declared illegal, I wouldn't be averse to setting a minimum period of honorable military service, and reasonable achievement, as a means of citizenship. Again, no extended families.

The other stuff now apparently on the table is a large part of why the 'compromise' was rejected.

Biggest point is omission of border security - fences and agents, factory sweeps, mandatrory deportations, and generally stopping the attraction for non-farm workers.

I also wonder when someone is going to come up with brass enough to address anchor babies!

I *DO* have a problem with this breezy acceptance of amnesty in any and all forms.

Why? Because it only digs the hole of massive defiance of immigration law deeper. Because every amnesty makes our system fail further.

If there is a set of requirements that we can agree is sufficient for becoming a citizen, fine. but it should be via legal channels only from the get go, not a special deal for those who decided to break the immigration law for years and years.

Every amnesty begets more illegal immigration. And the costs of illegal immigration, from the crime, social welfare, etc. are growing out of control.

To parahparase Justice Roberts from this week: The only way to stop illegal immigration is to stop illegal immigration.
At the border, in the workplace, in the jails (deport criminal aliens), etc.

“Biggest point is omission of border security - fences and agents, factory sweeps, mandatrory deportations, and generally stopping the attraction for non-farm workers.

I also wonder when someone is going to come up with brass enough to address anchor babies!”

Because all these things would actually stop immigration and the special interests who want more immigration, legal or illegal, are not going to want to see any of what we would want to get control over the situation.

I can’t say I’m against a path to citizenship for military service. Hell, I’m all for a Foreign Legion, actually.

I was for citizenship for military service when I first heard of it, but after thinking it through I'm not so sure. I believe the government should treat everyone the same. If the immigrants receive, and I'm sure they do, the same pay as citizens, I think it unfair. How much is citizenship worth? Seems to me that we'd be paying an illegal immigrant more than our citizens.

I’m not sure the French Foreign Legion is paid or treated the same as the French standing army.

Oh, crap. Did I just refer to something French as a potential model? I apologize.

Any Foreign Legion would have to understand that they’d...

a) Be light infantry - no cush jobs for you
b) Be last on the list to receive high-tech gear - sorry, citizens first!
c) Be first on the list for sh!t deployments - that’s the price you pay for potential citizenship

Etc.

Truthkeeper said “ ‘Sergeant York’ 1941. One of my favorite old movies. . .loved Gary Cooper in it’ Has FR had a movie poll with, say freepers nominate 250 movies or so and then we have an extensive poll for our top 100. Then, release the list to the media. This should pick up some good exposure for FR and for the movies we choose.

Not to mention that separate section on SPP/NAU (integrated north america).
