INTERNAL MEMO OF THE MARION COUNTY, OREGON SHERIFF'S OFFICE
As most already know, MCSO Deputy Kelly Freidenberg, 33 yrs, died in an on-duty traffic crash at 2335 hrs., Sat, 6/ 16/07, on Hwy 99E near St. Louis Rd, (south of Woodburn).
Dep. Freidenberg was responding code-3 to cover a Gervais Officer. While responding, Dep. Freidenberg was travelling south on Hwy 99E, south of Woodburn. As approaching on-coming traffic yeilded to the right, another northbound vehicle suddenly swerved around the yeilding vehicles, crossing the center line, going into Dep. Freidenberg's lane.
Dep. Freidenberg's patrol car was struck head-on by the northbound vehicle. The impact area was near the right shoulder of the highway of Dep. Freidenberg's lane.
After impact, Dep. Freidenberg's patrol went into the ditch, then rolled several times and came to rest on the drivers side.
On the arrival of the first Officers, (from Woodburn PD), a fire had started in the engine compartment of Dep. Freidenberg's patrol car. Three Officers and a civilian tried to pull Dep. Freidenberg out of the patrol car but could not due to Dep. Freidenberg being pinned in. The responding Officers used their fire extinguishers in an attempt to put the engine fire out, but could not. The fire continued spreading and engulfed the vehicle.
On the arrival of Fire Dept units, the fire was extinguished. Dep. Freidenberg died at the scene.
In the second vehicle were the driver and two passengers. The driver was taken to OSHU in Portland, one passenger died at the scene and the second passenger left the scene and went to Salem Hospital. OSP is investigating the crash.
Dep. Freidenberg had been a MCSO Deputy for nearly two years and prior to that worked at Polk Co. S.O. for six years.
SPD Trauma Team is assisting the MCSO Trauma Team and with the memorial service. Once the time and date is set, another email will be sent out, (likely to be either Thursday or Saturday, 6/ 21 or 23). SPD Trauma Team contact people at this point are Ofc. Carpenter, Det. Bales and myself.
At this point, meal arrangements for the family are being coordinated through MCSO who will let us know of the needs. Currently, coverage for the next week is covered.
A trust account is being set up today should anyone wish to make a donation. Information will be sent out once we get receive it.
Additional information will be sent out as it becomes available.
Prayers for his family and friends....May God grant them comfort and ease their pain.

I would like to say something really nasty (but true and deserved) about Bush, who through his dereliction of duty contributed to this tragedy, but I’m simply too numb from this kind of thing any more. I never believed I could loathe a Republican POTUS as much as I do now.
Just say NO to Illegal Alien Amnesty!! Keep calling!! Its NOT OVER!!

Thanks, he was my son-in-law’s trainee when he came over the the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Like you, I hope he was killed suddenly. The rescuers had to back off because ammo was going off in the fire. I wonder what will happen to the illegal alien driving the other car.
Bttt!
I perused the online version of the Salem Statesman-Journal. Not one word about the driver and passengers of the car that stuck the officer. No names, no immigration status, big fat nothing. This is another attempted cover-up. Oregonians are fed up with the damage, human and otherwise, being caused by these illegal invaders.
“Prayers for his family and friends....May God grant them comfort and ease their pain.”
RK: I agree. However, if you note from the report, the author is very, very careful not to mention the sex of the cop, obviously for politically correct reasons, because “we’re all the same.”
But “Kelly” is the first name. Kelly is traditionally a female name in the U.S.
I assure you he was a guy. Wife, two daughters 13 and 3. His funeral was today.
I assure you he was a guy. Wife, two daughters 13 and 3. His funeral was today. The driver is an illgal alien returning from a wedding with two male relatives. The driver was seriously injured, the front passenger was killed and the one in the back seat was gone when additional officers arrived. he was found at a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Not to mention, initial reports say that alcohol was not involved. That stretches credulity.
Sorry, Inspectorette: I didn’t know you’re from the beaver state. We used to live there, but moved on. Dau & S.I.L. live and work in the Salem area and are intimately familiar with the details. It’s truly, as you say, sad and infuriating on many levels for us. Thanks for your thoughts.
Source please? I'm in Marion County and this is the first I've heard about this.
Chekc for a PM
As you no doubt know, our legislature went Democrat in November, and of course, Gov. Kulongoski is a liberal Democrat. (Hard to imagine that, given his background growing up in a Catholic orphanage, and service in the USMC.) Needless to say, our politicos are in the tank for illegal immigrants. You probably also saw that Portland mayor Tom Potter was outraged at the immigration raid at Fresh Del Monte last week. :-(
Thank you for your service to our country, both in the military and in law enforcement
Thanks. It has been my honor and privilege to serve.
Burned alive.
BTTT
We pray it wasn’t so, but I don’t really know. What have you heard?
The Salem Statesman-Journal has been severely criticized for publishing an interview with the witness who attempted to rescue him from the burning vehicle. The account was graphic and disturbing. God bless this officer and his family, and the man who attempted to save him.
There was a 400 car funeral procession to the cemetery yesterday in Salem. They put a map in the newspaper for us!
His brother attends my church. God bless Kelly!
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
