Rushing thru the Indy airport, saw a couple guys in uniform sitting by themselves. We spoke and it turned out they were returning from Iraq. I told em "thank you for what you have done there". Man you shoulda seen their faces light up.
We spoke some more and they said they felt we are really starting to get it done around Baghdad but they were pissed you couldn't see it yet in the news stateside.
I kinda had the feeling that they expected no one to care, I was glad I was there but it made me mad later at the country we are in to think that these guys would even have that question in their minds.
we cant do enough for those serving in the armed forces
anyway, just had to rant.
Well done! Seens this?

Thanks. That was a good thing you did.
God put you in the right place and the right time. Thank you for giving a kind word to our warriors.

yeah, i saw the good news on the front page of the NYT /sarcasm
Thank YOU for doing this!
Thanks for taking the time to show how much you care.
It means a lot to these soldiers and to me!
I don’t know about California but here, they are quite the celebrities. I was sitting at a stop light, several soldiers crossed the street. I think they were a little put off by all the people honking and cheering. They were shyly smiling and waving. I am proud of Missouri for being so patriotic.
I’ve gotten into the habit of picking up the check anonymously when I see any of our troops eating or having a beer at the airport. I don’t want them to ever feel as so many of us did from Vietnam forward til the first Gulf War, unwanted and unappreciated, and subject to the usual off hand comments like ‘baby killers’.
Pick up a check, you’ll be glad you did and the face you see in the mirror the next morning will reflect it.
You go bee!!!
I’m sure those warriors will never forget you!!
A few kind words can mean so very much.

I thank military people every time I encounter them, no matter where they’ve been deployed. I saw an old gentleman getting out of his car a few years ago, and his license plate said, “Purple Heart.”
He had served in World War II, and I thanked him, and I wish we’d had time to talk a while about his duty. I shook hands with and thanked Tom Ferebee, the bombardier who dropped “Little Boy” on Hiroshima, just a few months before he died.
Great idea.

answer to your question, in N Cal people have no idea what is going on in the world and seem totaly caught up in their own little make believe paradise. No one seriously believes we are at war. Its just Bush. Once he is gone it will all go back to the way it was before 9-11. Or so they believe. Scary
Good to hear. Thanks for saying this to them, they need to hear it.
Did you buy em a beer?
I bought a couple of guys lunch at Red Robin a few days back and shook thier hands. Great burgers. The twenty bucks that I spent is maybe the best twenty I ever spent.
I know what you mean on the vets from WWII. there is a really old guy on the block that pretty much stayed to himself. One day I was talking with him and the subject came up of WWII. turns out he was on a glider that went early on operation market garden in Holland when his unit was assigned to hold a piece of the road. Man he had some stories.
Thank you..
In my case, I sell automotive tuning, diagnostic and performance parts online and had a heart warming case last week that caused me to donate a $300 cold air intake to the project.
16 year old boy contacted me about some parts he wants to order for his Dad's car. Seems Dad has been in Iraq for a while but he's coming home in 4 weeks and they've planned a little work on the car as a father / son project. Kid just sold his guitar as a start to pay for some parts and get a few things together to surprise his dad.
I called his house and spoke with his mother to confirm the situation (and to make sure the kid had permission to be ordering parts for dad's car!!) and we started working on a parts list.
Kid had barely enough money from the guitar sale to pay for a cold air intake and somehow along the way I decided that I couldn't take his money anyway. I sent the intake at no charge as my little thank you for his dad.
Anyone else want to personally contribute PM me and I'll fill you in.
And everyone should always be on the look out for some way to say thank you to a soldier.
Cheers,
Lloyd
I was in an airport several months ago, when a group of soldiers came by, having just arrived. Everyone in the airport stood up and applauded, including me with tears running down my face.
