What’s the dead horse? The Amnesty kerfuffle disguised as Immigration “Reform” or Snugs position?

Agreed. And what most of the DBM is too young to remember is that Mr. Thompson was a legal council to the (I think) RNC during Watergate.

I toulw be interesting to get his insight on a young Hillary Rotten...

I didn’t really catch much of the discussion about Cindy, but I did hear enough to get the impression that the media thinks they really didn’t play a role in putting Cindy up on her pedestal

Oh of course. How stupid of us. Having people like Moron Dowd gushing in the NT Slimes (The paper of record don't you know)about Cindy's banSheehan's "absolute moral authority" had utterly NOTHING to do with the media myth formerly known as Cindy Sheehan getting created!

Do I really even need the sarcasam tag?

Bottom line companies will not pay more the jobs or the sub contract work will go overseas.

I have no problem w/a border fence. I have a problem with the anti-business, pro-minimum wage rhetoric. The conservative movement lost me w/that.

Some are now saying all low tech industry should be closed and our Country should have an economic Depression to eliminate the Mexicans. If we destroy our economy than I guess we can become Mexico and solve our Mexican problem. You go along w/that?

Pray for W and Our Troops

It is truly a mess MO1 and should not be decided strictly upon political whims of either party but on rule of law and common sense.
Most countries in the world decide who to let in and who not to let in. We need the same rights.

For once, I listened to the Power Player

Same here. She is an amazing woman. I love it that she read Nancy Drew books as a young girl.

Come on it is not the White House that is responsible for making sure people do their job ultimately if you go down many many channels but to say the White House should sack a border patrol agent is ridiculous.

I think the point is that the man at the top sets the tone. Local law enforcement agents have been actively discouraged by Homeland Security from enforcing anti-illegal immigration laws (there have been reports of this from L.A.). And what is the Federal government doing to protect the border control agents who are trying to do their jobs?

The unwritten policy is not to enforce the laws too strictly, if at all. The border agent, by adopting a permissive approach, was just following what he thought his superiors wanted him to do. Conflicting messages are being sent out by management - make a big show to appease the populace by conducting some high-profile raids, then quietly release the people that were rounded up, back into the locality. This way, management can blame the guy at the bottom, when something bad happens that becomes public; and at the same time quietly indicate to their underlings that if they expect to be promoted, they'd be wise not to crack down too forcibly. Good way for management to evade culpability - happens all too frequently in government and business, I'm sorry to say.

Absolutely and jobs and companies will relocate to the far east fact. Which means not only low paid jobs will go but higher paid office and admin ones will. Companies will just need a few admin staff to handle sales and imports I know I work for a company in the UK where this has happened.

He said the bill’s opponents “...don’t want what’s best for America...”. That’s quintessential snarling, political rhetoric.

Question: When’s the last time he rolled our that sort of verbal assault against Democrats?

I notice that Bill Kristol, this morning, and Fred Barnes, yesterday, both of the Weekly Standard are drawing back from supporting this immigration bill. Suddenly they think it is too complex

Perhaps they both read the latest column by their FNC colleague Charles Krauthammer: It Doesn't Take Einstein to See What's Wrong with This Bill

A very well written and convincing piece.

Another great link I’ve been using to “educate” folks I know on this disaster of a bill:

http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/misc/index.cfm#research

In particular, the article on at least 10 ways this bill subverts the rule of law in our country ....... it clears up a lot of the false info circulating around and touted as the way the bill works ..... much of what is being said (politicians, media, etc.) is JUST NOT TRUE (but then, what else is new?).

However the fact that illegals are DOWN compared to what they were in 2000, I am stumped by this urgency. The Bush administration must have been doing SOMEthing right. I find it so odd that this mad outrage over immigration didn’t occur in 2002 or 2003 or 2004...suddenly now?
Everyone with all their angry rhetoric are making matters worse...not better, by forcing the issue. This bill stinks, but dang! NOTHING would’ve been better than this. And this collective crack-up because of immigration is causing very serious and dangerous threats from being be examined.
Namely—democrats taking charge...terror threats already is place...Israel.
Just dang!!!

Laws such as this fall into disuse because the public at large sees no use for them and then to re-inforce have to be updated and this is to a degree IMHO is what is happening with the new immigration law.

There is a great blurring of the lines with this issue, and whether it is best handled Fed/State. Wouldn’t it be grand if they actually worked in harmony?

Yes it would be nice .. but with a governemtn that's splitt 50/50 .. I'm not goint to hold my breath waiting for that to happen

I’m just saying that it’s EXTREMELY difficult to stand up and be counted on the city level when the illegal thugs come after you. Our sweet/darlin mayor (female) has more cajones than I would have to fight this.

I totally agree with you .. it is very difficult .. but we need more people on the local level to fight

Good for your mayor for having the guts to stand up and fight!
