NEW YORK -- According to NewsChannel4's Jonathan Dienst, sources said federal investigators have made arrests in an alleged terror plot on Kennedy Airport.
Law enforcement officials said the plot may involved a former airport worker.
A press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. this afternoon.
I thought that was strange, too. Glad I wasn't alone in noticing this.
But getting back to the subject at hand, Guyana and many places in the Caribbean are stuffed with Muslims, mostly associated with the Pakistanis who came there as merchants. Don't forget that Venezuela, home of Hugo the Nutcase who loves jihadi terrorists because they hate the Great Satan, is also on the Caribbean.
I think most DA’s have taken a drama lesson or two.
The experts say the plot wouldnt have done anything, but the prosecutor is talking about Die Hard 7 here.
Maybe she is trying to influence potential jurors.
One of America's staunchest opponents in South America was the Guyanan president of the 50s and 60s Chetti Jagan (sis) who was an early supporter of Fidel. A lot of anti American feeling down there, now coupled with Islamic radicalism. I'd bet the Feds are looking at many more people in the Richmond Hill area who work at JFK.
I was watching this DA talking and couldn’t stop from laughing. Talk about a drama queen. She comes across like she has rehearsed this in front of a mirror for hours. Bad form.
On the other hand, she has probably dreamed of this moment ever since the 6th grade.
They said two suspects were in custody in Trinidad and Tobago, and identified those two as Abdul Kadir, a citizen of Guyana and former member of its parliament, and Kareem Ibrahim, a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago.
The fourth was named as Abdel Nur, described as a citizen of Guyana. They provided no other immediate information on Nur’s whereabouts, but said Kadir and Nur were associates of Jamaat Al Muslimeen, which was behind a deadly coup attempt in Trinidad in 1990.
The Mayor of LA just wishes he could have a press conference this long!
Of course, it would be longer when they redid the entire thing in Spanish.
I predict that in the near future... not only will they be just audio press conferences... they will simply be RECORDED responses. Their release will come as soon as all departments involved have signed-off on the contents.
They all know it's just a matter of time til something big happens... and by this method, blame can be dispersed over numerous agencies and thousands of officials.
Just another bumper sticker for John Edwards car.
I first read about the mixture of black and Indian islanders in V.S. Naipaul’s wonderful novel, “A House for Mr. Biswas.”
In that novel, as in his African novel “A Bend in the River,” Naipaul presents the Indians, a minority among the blacks, as the civilized ones. I’m sorry that he appears to have been wrong. I suppose when they were moved there by the British, some of them were Hindu and some where Muslim. Pakistan didn’t exist back then.
Naipaul himself is universally despisted by teachers of postcolonial literature, because his views are pretty conservative and sympathetic to western civilization. He’s one of the best novelists in the third world, but suffers from political prejudice.
re: When I saw the former airport worker, I remembered there were a large amount of airport workers fired after 9/11.
I wonder if he was one of them.

Good Point. I hope they’ve been watching them ever since. Who else would know how to get around in the airports?
Then again, you’d be surprised who works at the airports now.
Looks like MSNBC had the scoop when I posted that and most of the early reports from them are now confirmed at the FBI briefing. I don't care for them either, but they were first and I thought FReepers needed to know.
They had no idea who owned the laptop and made no move to find out.Nor did they confiscate it.My concern was ignored.
They didn’t know or care who owned the laptop. They didn’t even try to find out.It was disturbing to see the lack of safety proceedures since laptops are screened for explosives.
Stumbling block-------oops, for a second there, I thought you called Rooty a stumblebum. In any event, I hope Rooty does not break into song while dealing with terrorists.
" Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk, I'm a woman's man, no time to talk. Music loud and women warm.Ah, ha, ha, ha, Stayin' alive. Stayin' alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, Stayin' alive.
Feel the city breakin' And ev'rybody shakin' And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, Stayin' alive. Stayin' alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, Stayin' alive.
Life goin' nowhere. Somebody help me. Somebody help me, yeah. Life goin' nowhere. Somebody help me, yeah. Ah, ha, ha, ha, Stayin' alive. Stayin' alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, Stayin' alive."
