ARTICLE SNIPPET: “TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- An Iranian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) announced that it would pay a $150,000 prize to anyone who could put into effect a death sentence decree issued by the Late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, against Salman Rushdie for blasphemy.
Secretary General of the Headquarters for Honoring the Martyrs of Islam World Movement Forouz Raja’ee-Far told FNA here on Sunday that his headquarters had announced in 2004 that it would pay $100,000 to anyone who could put into effect Imam Khomeini’s verdict and that after 3 years it has now raised the prize to $150,000.
Indian-born British author Salman Rushdie crushed Muslims’ sentiments and beliefs and sparked protests in Muslim countries around the world with his book The Satanic Verses. In 1989 the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini issued a verdict of death sentence against him for blasphemy.
The move by the Iranian NGO follows a recent controversial move by the British Queen who awarded Rushdie with a knighthood.
Raja’ee-Far reminded that many world Muslims have voiced preparedness to exercise Imam Khomeini’s verdict since it was issued in 1989.
“And that’s why Salman Rushdie has been living with continued nightmares during all these 18 years,” he continued.
The NGO secretary general also added, “According to Imam Khomeini’s verdict, it is an obligation for all Muslims to kill Salman Rushdie even if he repents from the bottom of his heart and becomes the pious man of the time.”
“Also according to Imam’s verdict, if a non-Muslim person can find and execute Rushdie sooner than Muslims, it will be an obligation for Muslims to provide such a person with whatever he wants as his payment or prize,” he reminded.”

A school and convent in a Gaza Catholic compound were ransacked before being torched as fears rise among Christians over their future in the Hamas-ruled territory.
The school and convent were ransacked, burned and looted during clashes around a major security headquarters, the head of the community said yesterday, according to a report in the UK Guardian.
Crosses were broken, a statue of Jesus was damaged, and prayer books were burnt at the Rosary Sisters School and nearby convent, said Fr Manuel Musallem, head of Gaza’s Latin church.
The damage took place on Thursday, but wasn’t reported until days later because of the chaos that has prevailed since Islamic Hamas militants wrested power in Gaza, Fr Musallem said. The religious compound is located near a key security headquarters Hamas captured on Thursday on the final day of its Gaza takeover.
Gunmen used the roof of the school during the fighting, and the convent was “desecrated”, Mussalem said.
“Nothing happens by mistake these days,” he said...”

Oh my, we’ve not heard from you in nearly a year. So glad to see you here again. I’ve thought of you often.....and wondered about you and your Venezuelan connections. You always had so much inside information about the situation down there.......not good right now. Our son just returned from there (and Chile, Argentina, Paraguay). Mr. RR and I were there about six weeks ago. We had to have bodyguards accompany us wherever we went.....rather scary.
Regarding the “unsettling news”......wish I had some foresight or insight on things that could come. But like most who post here, I just read the signs. And the signs don’t look good. But, then again, they haven’t for years. So, who knows?

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The four hijackers thought to have been at the controls of the planes that crashed and killed thousands on Sept. 11 visited Las Vegas earlier this year, authorities said Thursday.
Authorities close to the investigation, which has sought to determine whether the terrorists had any ties to Las Vegas, confirmed that five of the 19 hijackers came here between May and August.
Of the five, four have been identified as the likely pilots of planes that crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field. The fifth was on board the plane that struck the Pentagon.
Officials with the Las Vegas office of the FBI had no comment Thursday on any information federal authorities have uncovered locally and would not discuss possible reasons for the visits.
But terrorism experts said the five men might have been motivated more by business than pleasure.”

A New Indian Mahdi?
A new Mahdi claimant has arisen in India, one “Mohammad Shakil” al-Mahdi:

The District-based Merit Systems Protection Board ordered that Agent David J. Sipe, 35, of Bethany, Okla., be returned to full duty following his acquittal on all charges during a court-ordered retrial in January.
The order, granting full back pay and interest to April 2001, was signed last week by Administrative Judge Anna M. Love. “

Six IED cell members arrested
Multi-National Division – Center PAO
BAGHDAD — Six members of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device cell were arrested June 16, southwest of Baghdad.
Operation Nijmegen, conducted by Company C, 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, netted a cell leader with ties to persons of interest in the area.
Two AK-47 machine guns, nine magazines in bandoleers and vests, two 9mm pistols, five cell phones and a set of binoculars were also confiscated in the operation.
