“Five terrorists visited LV

Men made total of six trips between May, August”

REVIEW-JOURNAL

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The four hijackers thought to have been at the controls of the planes that crashed and killed thousands on Sept. 11 visited Las Vegas earlier this year, authorities said Thursday.

Authorities close to the investigation, which has sought to determine whether the terrorists had any ties to Las Vegas, confirmed that five of the 19 hijackers came here between May and August.

Of the five, four have been identified as the likely pilots of planes that crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field. The fifth was on board the plane that struck the Pentagon.

Officials with the Las Vegas office of the FBI had no comment Thursday on any information federal authorities have uncovered locally and would not discuss possible reasons for the visits.

But terrorism experts said the five men might have been motivated more by business than pleasure.”

“Mehdi followers arrested for instigating Muslim youths”

(”UNI,” June 16, 2007)

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Raisen, India - Twelve people who were arrested yesterday for tutoring Muslim youths to wage a holy war, are followers of the controversial Mehdi sect, which believes that the ‘prophet’ would come to this world again when injustice increases.

One of the arrested, Mohammed Shakil, claimed that he was Mehdi and would become omnipotent in a few years.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Meanwhile, Mateen Khan and Athar Mohammed had claimed that the accused were motivating them for ‘jehad’ and taking them to New Delhi.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Those who came into contact with the accused claimed they were given inducements besides money for being taken abroad.

Bihar-resident Mohammed Shakeel, who studied up to class XII, came to New Delhi, where he married for the second time.

His second wife is reportedly posted in the Foreign Ministry.

Meanwhile, Shakeel wrote a book ‘Nabi Paigambar ke aane ki aahat’ and started distributing the book himself. Later, he declared that he was the ‘nabi (prophet)’ himself.

He reportedly succeeded in making 119 followers in various parts of the country.

Mateen claimed that Shakeel used to tell him that he was ‘nabi’. He was informed that a pledge would be administered in front of ‘nabi’ in New Delhi and preparations would be made for meeting Bin Laden.”

A New Indian Mahdi?
A new Mahdi claimant has arisen in India, one “Mohammad Shakil” al-Mahdi:

“Mehdi followers arrested for instigating Muslim youths”

(”UNI,” June 16, 2007)

SNIPPET: “Raisen, India - Twelve people who were arrested yesterday for tutoring Muslim youths to wage a holy war, are followers of the controversial Mehdi sect, which believes that the ‘prophet’ would come to this world again when injustice increases.

One of the arrested, Mohammed Shakil, claimed that he was Mehdi and would become omnipotent in a few years.”

The story goes on to say that while small (slightly over 100 followers), the group had members throughout India. Furthermore, after taking a “pledge” to the new Mahdi, they would be taken to meet Usama bin Ladin!”
